Where are you? I'm in Modesto. I just have to believe it will not take a year. I usually am pretty patient with other things in life, but since having made the decision for this surgery, I am having a hard time being patient. I just wish I could get started on the 10%. Someone at group last night told me that if my dr was monitoring me, he could fax the progress to Kaiser and I could start on the 10% before orientation. Anyone hear of that? I have heard that it takes anywhere from 3 months ( the shortest time) to 6 mos to a year ot two. Best of luck to ya, I am glad to hear there is someone else here in the about the same spot. I am so excited to finally get this process started, just a little unsure of what to expect. My PCP told me after the mettings with the nutritioninst and psych evaluation

then he will send off his reccomendation to the surgeon. After that they send out an acceptance letter and then you go to orientation. From there I am not to sure either. I do know that we are suppose to lose 10% of our weight and I think there may be some other nutrition classes that we have to take. From what I read the whole process is suppose to take about a year, although I am hoping I can get to surgery by the end of this year. Keep me posted on your progress.> Hi all,> > I have finally gotten a reccomendation from my PCP for the surgery and > so my journeey begins. Hi ,

Please excuse me if someone else has already mentioned this . . .

If you are assigned to the Fremont Bariatric Program, then you can go

ahead and start on your 10% as long as your PCP has documented your

current weight. Just make sure that it not stated as " patient reports

weight to be . . . " - the WLS folks want to see that the doctor or nurse

actually weighed you in. Dr. Hahn just gave us that tip at the last

Fremont Support Group meeting.

If you are in the Richmond program, then you do have to wait for your

official weigh-in with them before any weight loss counts towards your

10%. I think that SSF is the same as Richmond, but I'm not sure. I had

my surgery at Richmond - and I did find it extremely galling to have to

wait. I do wish that all the programs would adopt the routine that

Fremont uses.

Take care,

Kay (in San Leandro)

, I guess I will have to wait until I know where they will send me before I can get started on the 10%. If that is the case in Fremont I hope that is where they send me. How can I find out where I will go, pending approval? wrote: Im in Hayward, so I will probably go to the Freemont program (at least that is what the nutritionist said). I know it sounds so discouraging to have to wait so long. I have waited so long already to get to this point that another year seems like forever. At the same time, I am sure the time will go by fast. If you are going to Freemont then you can start losing the 10% now, other wise the other programs make you wait until orientation. I have decided for myself to start changing my eating habits now,

that way the weight loss and change after surgery will be easier. In terms of having to wait, just hang in there. It will happen.Take care,> > Hi all,> > > > I have finally gotten a reccomendation from my PCP for the surgery > and > > so my journeey begins.
