Guest guest
Rose, Thank you for the great advice, can you use Borax on any color? I think I will call the carpet cleaner back though to redo a couple rooms, even if it cost me. I need to stay on top of it this time too! It's funny how dogs are, I bought my oldest dog Wally a nice soft dog bed, he has hip spurs, and dysplasia, in both hips, and the girl dog Lillie, just went over and peed in his bed, and it went right through to the carpet, she was so close to death!! Then the next day pooped in the house twice, right after being out, I think she is telling me to buy her a bed, but she likes to sleep onthe cold floor, guess I should buy her a bed, just so she has one, as the little dogieHeidie has a little bed. you know we would not put up with this with our kids, I guess we really have lost our minds, lolMarla Marla, the best thing I have found to get the stain & odor out is Borax (in the laundry section). If the stains have already dried but you know where they are, wet them well (I use a spray bottle of water), then sprinkle on the Borax. It will pull the urine right up & turn the Borax yellow. If there is a large area, you may have to keep adding more Borax until it stays white. Annie pees buckets, so I shop-vac the area first; otherwise it takes 2-3 boxes of Borax to get all the urine up. I have done this with old stains & it works. Sometimes I think I've gotten all the urine up (or my family members think they have gotten it all), we shampoo the carpet, all looks great for a couple of days, then the stains pop back up. When that happens, I wet the area & use my Borax. Of all the various things I've tried, it works the best. Once all the urine is pulled up, I scoop up the wet Borax & sweep up as much as I can. After it's completely dry, then I vacuum it. (When my son was house-sitting for me last year, he vacuumed up all that wet Borax with my regular vacuum cleaner. Yuk, what a mess. We had to take it completely apart to get all that pee-soaked Borax out. So definitely let it dry before you vacuum it.) Occasionally I find I missed a spot & have to rewet it, but not often. I have it down to a science now. I've been trying to put diapers on Annie at night, but with her long thick body, I haven't found any that fit right. I'm using the biggest toddler pullups, but they look like Speedos on her! The smallest adult pullups are too loose around her legs. Well, it's back to the vet tomorrow; maybe he'll have some ideas. Guest guest
Rose, they make a pull up that looks like underpants for older kids. And it is specifically for bedwetting. Maybe? She wants to get at EMG on that leg to be sure that the pain isn't caused by something else. I've had EMG's on both arms/hands & feet & they didn't bother me at all; one of the advantages of the numbing effect of neuropathy I guess. Most people have told me they were really painful. If she feels that the pain is coming from the lumbar disc(s), the microsurgery is a promising treatment for the leg pain. I get the EMG next Monday & see the doc a week later. Meanwhile, I'm just staying down with frozen french fries packed along my leg!> > > Ramblin' Rose> Moderator> > > > To: Neurosarcoidosis@ yahoogroups. com> From: JessicAbouhamama@ aol.com> Date: Tue, 21 Jul 2009 20:40:10 -0400> Subject: Re: Rose,> > > > > thank you for telling me about tracie. Guest guest
Marla, I've only used Borax on beige or brown carpet, but you can also use it in laundry. I'd try a hidden spot first. About not putting up with this stuff with our kids . . . . maybe you didn't have to, but I could fill up a year's worth of Dr. Phil episodes. Of course, he'd probably blame me & ban me to the Dr. Phil house! Guest guest
That's actually what I have. I think I said it was for toddlers, but it's actually for kids up to 120#. Annie only weighs 60+, but she has a unique build. Those who've seen her picture in her Dog Beach know what I mean! She saw the vet today & he doesn't think it's all from the epilepsy. She also doesn't have a UTI & doesn't fit the pattern of "older woman" incontinence. She has some arthritis in her back legs & he thinks maybe she tries to hold it, but can't & that's why she always tinkles in the kitchen (that's where the back door is). I've had Annie for nearly 4 years & she has never barked to go out. Until this past year we had a dog door, so she could go out whenever she needed, then when we moved to this house, she had B.J. who barked enough for both of them. After he died last summer, I hoped that she would learn to bark when she wanted out, needed water, etc., but she doesn't. I don't know if she just got so dependent on B.J. doing the talking?!? She doesn't bark to come in, either. When it's cold or rainy, I have to set a timer so that I don't forget about her. She barks to greet people or when we get to the dog park, so I know her vocal cords work. Anyway, the vet gave her an injection of a long-acting steroid to help the arthritis, my son is going to put linoleum in the kitchen & we'll see what happens.
