Guest guest
Glad to know he's getting better. My oldest (7-1/2 now) doesn't have club feet, but had a heck of a fight with RSV. Two weeks in the hospital, intubated for 6 days. It's quite a scary disease for some little ones (he was 14-1/2 months old at the time). As far as the brace, if it was me I'd just wait until the Dr. takes a look - he'll probably say it wasn't fitting right anyway so why go through the trouble. - Seth (meir, lcf, 1/29/04, fab 12/7) > > Hi everyone > > We are to go to ortho today. Guest guest
As of tonight I haven't heard back from a, yes I did talk to her directly. Please help if you can. Thanks Larissa and 7-15-05 wrote: Larissa, Really there is no sense putting the shoes back on him as we know his feet are not corrected properly. The shoes are just going to cause him pain at this point. Did you speak with a directly at Dr. Dobbs office at Shriners? She will do things as quickly as she is able for you, I would think they would be able to see pretty much right away. Let me know if you don't hear back from them today, I can give a a call and try to help. Guest guest
I saw his ortho yesterday, he ask me to put the shoes on I did then he came back in said his heel not all the way down in the shoe, he tried to put his foot down in the shoe and couldn't. That's what I been trying to tell them the last two weeks, no one would listen to me there, so they put the cast back on, we post to go back in two weeks to see him, hopefully I won't have to. Guest guest
why two weeks? OMG they really are grasping there and have no idea why they can't fix his foot huh? that cast better be a good one, two weeks in a bad cast could cause some damage. When can you get to Dobbs? Poor little guy! Larissa, you're doing such a great job with him. Do you think you will get to keep him? It really sounds like you are the mama he needs. Guest guest
Well I had to take off right cast because I guess they didn't put them on right. The two cast was apart like he has two cast, very moveable. You could twist the cast, was pitiful. I don't think I going to be able to go to St. Louis because of finding a way up there. Going to Louisana I can ride the Shriners Van. So it's not going to cost me much to go there. So he got one cast on and one off. Larissa and frogabog wrote: why two weeks? So it's not going > to cost me much to go there. > Is someone trying to convince you to go to LA Shriners who isn't part of a clubfoot community because they have this special van? See, there's little point in going to LA, you'll get the same kind of care as you're getting right now. Did you miss that very important part of why we were telling you NOT to go to LA? LA Shriners cannot help him, there's NO reason to go. You may as well stay right there where you are and let them mess his foot up rather than go *anywhere*. Free is only good if you're getting something from it. Free rotten food... is something you wouldn't accept no matter how hungry you were. > So he got one cast on and one off. I'm not sure what to tell you now. I guess keep trying with these inept docs. maybe they'll figure something out someday although I doubt it. IF they can't *even* keep a cast in one piece... shudder... Poor will never have a good foot like he deserves, that's really very sad. Kori > > Larissa and > >frogabog wrote: > why two weeks? Guest guest
OK, I'm not in that area, and I'm not the one who has to make the trip, but I took a quick look at Google Maps. Newcastle is about 7-1/2 hrs. from Shreveport, 8-1/2 from St. Louis, 11-1/2 from Iowa City. The care that you'll get has got to be worth the trip. Read some of the horror stories of people who didn't get things taken care of right. We were almost at surgery ourselves - many of the people on this board were with the wrong doctor before they got to a Ponseti doctor. It's not too late to get to the right doctor now, just get there. If Shreveport can't do it, you're wasting your time and will (I hope) end up in St. Louis in the end anyway rather than surgery. Might as well go now. - Seth (meir, lcf, 1/29/04) > > > > > > > > > > Hi everyone > > > > > > > > > > We are to go to ortho today. Guest guest
I will try tomorrow to find away. There's a Shriner in my church he said he will make a few calls tomorrow for me. Larissa and erl81105 wrote: Larissa, I know I am coming in late here, we just went through our first ear infection. The state should be helping you with all of this. They should be financing his treatment and they should be getting him the best treatment possible. I know if it were here in CT the state would be the one having to do all the arranging of the appointment, transportation, and going with you guys if necessary. We fly kids all over for different reasons. I'm sure Dr. Dobbs would give you a letter stating the importance of Samual receiving the appropriate treatment and the long term damages of continuing on the road you are on now. In our state when a child has a medical issue, our consulting staff of docs and nurses meet and talk to the treating doc to determine the BEST course of treatment. I know each state works differently, however a parent could sue if their child did not have the appropriate treatment. If you want me to help you with talking to the case worker let me know. You could tell them I am a DCF Social worker and the mother of a child with clubfoot who was not treated right until I found this group.
