Guest guest
Hi April, " I have noticed that most of your kids all seem to have some speech. Alyssa >does not. Will this help? I know she can talk, b/c she'll blurt something >out about once every few months or so. After starting the diet she said >something several times over the course of a week, but nothing since. Am I >just getting impatient? " My daughter Ysanna, 2yr, autistic has also been GFCF for about a month. She is non verbal. Like your daughter, she will blurt out different things occasionally but it is not meant to communicate with us - sometimes she acts like she didn't even mean to say whatever she did. She has been on DMG for several days and hasn't said anything other than " Ma " - which she's been saying for months. It's hard to tell what will work for your child and what won't. It is very hard to be patient - God knows I am always looking for results or answers and waiting can seem like the hardest thing. Since the diet Ysanna has blurted out several " new " words (she was heard saying " NO " and " bye bye " , each only once); she sleeps throughout the night; and she is overall more pleasant (less tense). > " I have made her an appointment with her doctor. Could someone please make >up a list of what tests to have done. The only test that has ever been done is for lead. What do I ask for? " I was wondering also, I will also have to check gfcfdiet.com. " I have been doing a lot of research on ABA. I want to start this asap. Can I do this on my own? " Are you in Early Intervention? If so, do you have a service coordinator (upon diagnosis parents are appointed one in NY state)? I asked my service coordinator this same question and she didn't recommend parents doing their own ABA. She said that there is a great need to seperate therapy services from home ( meaning there has to be a line between home routine and work time). However, in your case it doesn't seem like you have much of a choice at this point. Look for some books so that you can start with the therapy. I believe some parents have done ABA on their own, I haven't but if you do a search for it you can find something. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Guest guest
It is very hard to be patient when all you want is for your child to get better right away. I noticed my son talking more at about the 3 week mark but there were definite changes at 3 months, 7 months and so on. It's all on the individual. Keep a journal to write everyhing down everyday so you can look back and see just the little changes that creep up that you probaly don't realize. Give the diet at least 3 good months if not longer for you to adjust and make sure there is no hidden offenders in any of the food your giving your child. From my point of view I wouldn't give any supplements until you have passed that 3 month period. It's very hard to see what the diet is doing if you have all these other things included. I know everyone just wants their child to be " normal " as soon as they can but this diet is a very delicate option that alot of people don't agree with so go slow and as you introduce other things. Make sure you do one supplement at a time and with a two week span in between any new ones and document everthing. Good luck MA
Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am sorry to be bothering anyone but, I have some questions. To start out with what do I do? Ok, let me explain. To start out with do I go my family Dr. or do I just go to the Dr. that does all of these surgeries? Could someone tell me from step # 1 to the end? Thank you,
Guest guest
I started with my doctor and got his suggestions on where to go. Depending on the insurance that you have you may need a referral from him anyway. Others that I know have contacted the hospitals that are in their network and have gotten information on seminars that they offer or have asked them where they need to start. Either way you will get to the same end. I hope that helps. I also did a google search earlier and got to a web site for WLS and searched on their data base for doctors in my state. You could also do a search and call one of the surgeons that comes up in your area. Dora Re: Questions Hi everyone, I am sorry to be bothering anyone but, I have some questions. Guest guest
I agree...go to your family Dr and tell him/her you are thinking about or want the surgery. Hopefully your Dr can give you a few Dr's names that do the surgery. Go and visit a few of them. They all seem to do things differently. And you MUST fell comfortable with this Dr. They will be in your life for awhile. Make sure you can talk openly and candidly to him. Once you pick your surgeon, they will tell you what you need to do and what other Dr's you need to see for testing. From reading these e-mails, Dr's require different tests. Hope this is helpful and good luck. Colleen in NJ PS...Do your homework and check out different websites to understand the different surgeries too. Guest guest
Just wondering, I am on Wellbutrin XL as well, pre-op. But... was told after surgery (5/6/04)any WLS patients could no longer take anything that was time released or suspended. I have gone back to the older regular Wellbutrin. Anyone else familiar on this subject? Thanks, Dana > Hi I am 8 days from surgery and my boyfriend and I have been doing > alot of talking about the surgery he is very supportive of it but > is also worried cause i do suffer from depression and sever anxiety > which I take medication for both of them we where both wondering how > you all felt emotionally while you where recovering from surgery > > and how your emotionally doing after being healed from the > surgery?? Guest guest
I was told the same thing about the time released medications. I got a prescription for regular Wellbutrin and they were huge. Plus they only came in 75mg so I had to take two to get the correct dose. I cut them in half and they were horrible. So I took my sample bottle of the Wellbutrin XL and showed them to the surgeon and asked about the time released and he said that it was fine for me to take them. So that is what I am doing. They are small and I only have to take one of them. I'm not sure if your surgeon agrees or not. Hope this helps, Tina > Re: QUESTIONS > > Just wondering, I am on Wellbutrin XL as well, pre-op. Either. Depends on the comfort range of the child. Anywhere in between this range is *about* right. But most kids prefer heel to heel as seen here more often than not. >Isaac is 8 " in his shoulders. >I have him set at setting 8 on both sides which is 10 " from center >of hole to center of hole. Sounds about right. The best way to tell is to simply hold the bar up to his shoulders and see how close it is to heel to heel (seam, yes, not shoulder blade) >His center of back of shoe heel to cob of shoe heel is 6.5 " . >His measurement from back screw on plate is 8 " . > >I tried moving him to the 10 setting on one side, and he fussed >really bad. It looks wider than his shoulders there. I'd keep him at the 8 right now, or if it seems a bit too small when you hold it up to him, move just one shoe to the next hole. This increases it by 1 " rather than 2 " when you move both shoes. >Two - Can someone post a pic on the Cpics of a foot properly >positioned in an open heel Markell? Darbi night woke (fully comfortable in her FAB) 4-6 times a night till she was over 2yo. It's just the way she was. always hungry! lol.. I will be back later after I put the kids to bed and send you that picture. Can you take one of yours to send too? I took some tonight, but I am getting all 3 kids in bed solo, so I may not get it posted till morning. It looked great, but when I put the bar on, it seems like the heel is pushed up just slightly now, but it could be my imagination. > Kori > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Oh, I have also changed sock type too with the last fitting on. We will see if that makes any difference. > > One - Someone clarify the bar measurement thing for me. > The shoulder measurement(not shoulder blades but arm seam to arm > seam) should be equal to what... > the heel to heel of back of shoes OR the center screw on the plate > of the heel? > > Isaac is 8 " in his shoulders. > I have him set at setting 8 on both sides which is 10 " from center > of hole to center of hole. > His center of back of shoe heel to cob of shoe heel is 6.5 " . > His measurement from back screw on plate is 8 " . > > I tried moving him to the 10 setting on one side, and he fussed > really bad.
