Guest guest
Hi Grads: Has anyone had any experience with the muscle relaxant SOMA? I've been taking it (my bf has a prescription for his bad back), and I find it helps with my own shoulder/back problems, but then I thought I read somewhere (of course I can't find that now) that it was related to aspirin? I sure hope not.... Thank you in advance, Staci
Guest guest
Hi Staci. After my TT/revision/hysterectomy surgery last September, the surgeon gave me Soma. He's a highly respected & qualified bariatric surgeon, so I trust him not to give me " bad " medicine. BTW, I LOVED the Soma. It would be worth having more surgery to get more of that stuff. lol. I remember hearing that it's similar to Valium or something, but it definitely made recovering from a TT more bearable. ---------------------------------------- Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.com http://www.5dollarhosting.com .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! Guest guest
SOMA (generic carisoprodol) is a skeletal muscle relaxant of fairly unknown etiology (not quite sure how it works) It does not have a direct muscle relaxant effect but more a a sedation. If used for longs periods of time without conjunctive therapy it does have the potential for addiction and abuse. Also (info from my drug days) if enough are taken (6-8) it can make for one hell of a sexual adventure...pre viagra of course.
Guest guest
I've been on Soma for years, and they never requested I get off of it. I doubt highly about the aspirin connection, if anyone knows more about this, let me know...but it is just a muscle relaxer, NOT and antiinflammatory. My rheumatologist told me to stay on it for my fibro. He is aware of my WLS. I was on it when I had the surgery, and my surgeon, while recommending I stay off of Vioxx, aspirin and NSAIDS of all sorts, nothing was ever said about soma. Guest guest
This I cannot quite accept. Before my WLS, I would take two at bedtime...and all that happened to me was I could no longer stand on my two feet...my legs would buckle...with no muscular strength...with two, the though of 6-8 I think, would probably kill me. I take one 4 X a day, and notice no sedative affect. It does help with my pain situation though. Viagra? Hmmm...had no experience with this drug, but anything that would take my muscle control away, I would think would not enhance that aspect of a person's life! SOMA is, indeed, a good one...it puts me to sleep quickly! How funny....one SOMA puts me to sleep (SOUND sleep!) within an hour or two....I think 6-8 would kill me... I can't imagine being conscious enough for sex!! LoL =) Staci
Guest guest
Thank you all for the info on the Soma. I'm still having bad back problems from the fall down the stairs in December. Have had three epidural steroid injections, and last week had trigger point injections. Just spoke to the doc this morning, he cancelled my appt due to the power outages here and he prescribed Vicodin again for me because I told him that muscle relaxers, NSAID's etc were a no go for me. Don't want to start the Vicodin route again, but need something for the pain. Just called him and asked him to call the pharmacy and cancel the Vicodin and said I was willing to try the Soma. Hopefully it won't make me sleepy and I can take it during the day and function more easily. I only take the Vicodin at night because I have the kids to take care of during the day, so walk around most of the day in a good amount of pain from my back. Can't believe I'm so excited about popping yet another pill in my mouth. Really do need to get a life. : ) So looking forward to going back to school in September and be able to concentrate on other things besides my aches and pains, play dates and pool parties for the kids, etc. Starting to count the days. Yippeee. Regina
