Dexascans for Males

I just have a comment re Dexascans and a tendency in good Dr's to believe

that they are not necessary in male WLS patients.

Vitalady was on my case (not an unusual situation and one that I always

grateful for) re the bone scan over two years ago, and about six months ago

I finally just told my PCP that I was gonna get one,,,,and that was it. I

got it. Osteopenia in the right hip! Now, since I did not get a baseline I

have no clue whether or not this was going on before WLS, because if

anything I have been a complant kinda guy in terms of supplements and have

done lotta calcium and the other goodies to go with it for max absorption

for the last three years and more. I wish I had the baseline at time of

surgery to compare with. We shall see if this continues when the next scan

comes up in five months.

My PCP is a great Dr and works hard with me on all health issues and more

importantly knows that he has ears and actually uses them! But he just did

not believe that this was an issue for males. I would urge anyone, male or

female, who has this surgery to get a Dexascan as a baseline as soon as you

can and do them yearly for life.

what labs should we be asking for?

Would someone email me to let me know what labs dh and I should be asking

our pcp for? Do we both need bone scans (she said dh didn't need them)?

Thanks so much!
