Guest guest
Thanks Sue it did. I hate the fact Kaiser is not consistant at all with the timeline of appointments with every patient. I went looking at my acceptance letter last night, and started to look at the calendar. It's going to be almost 12 weeks from the acceptance letter before I have my first appt, and thats for the psych eval. I've been working on this with my PCP since February, and am just really frustrated at how slow the whole process is taking for me *sigh* > > Misty & Connie, I am also going through Richmond. Guest guest
you want to hear something thats discouraging? I emailed my PCP this morning through the kp.org web site explaining that it seems like Richmond is really dragging their feet with my case, and I explained what was going on - and then asked her if she could call them and find out whats going on (after all she did the initial referral) - she replied back and said she can't. That PCP's are no longer part of the process once my file has actually been " Assigned " - her suggestion was to call member services and complain if I was that upset with how slow the process is taking (yeah right I don't think so!). She then also said she heard that Richmond is about a year out right now for surgeries after the acceptance date, due to all the referrals sent to them from SSF yuck > > > > Misty & Connie, I am also going through Richmond. Guest guest
That sucks Misty...I called members services a few weeks ago and got a super cool guy. He did everything he could to find out what was the hold up but just got the same answer that I did. Richmond will not budge on it! Its frustrating! Hopefully you will hear something soon. If I remember right your date on your letter wasn't too far behind mine. Connie Misty wrote: you want to hear something thats discouraging? Guest guest
just my 2c, but years ago when I went thru this, we were then told that it was a year....and it was MUCH shorter....so just keep moving foward, go to the classes, loose yr 10% and you will get the surg sooner... mine ended up being from starting orientation feb 1st to may 10th for surgery... as I lost my 10% by exercising and following the binder 1200 cal food plan to the T. gl my 2c BMisty wrote: you want to hear something thats discouraging? Guest guest
This has certainly helped me i have appointment to see the nutritionist June 28th I'll just play it by ear thanks for the information jazzycalsnoozie wrote: Misty & Connie, I am also going through Richmond. I just wanted to share with both of you my sequence of appointments/timeline:My PCP referred me to the Bariataric Program without a psych eval or nutritionist consult. Same day that the referral was sent - I was approved (acceptance letter was dated the same day as the referral). 2 days after approval, I received a call from Sara from Richmond Bariatric Dept to schedule a Psych Eval & Nutrition consult with providers from the Bariatric Department. Sara explained that some PCPs do these two appointments before the referral is sent in, but mine didn't. Both Psych Eval & Nutrition consult were scheduled for approx 4-5 weeks later. Sara explained that after I complete the Psych Eval & Nutrition consult, my case will be reviewed by a Case Manager and I will then receive a date for Orientation. After completion of Psych Eval & Nutrition consult, I was told that I should be contacted within 1 week to schedule orientation. I didn't hear anything after the 1 week went by so I called the Bariatric Dept and was told that my case mgr has been out sick and to wait another week or so. After another week (this makes it a total of almost 6.5 weeks from acceptance)- I called again and was told to wait and not call back until my two months are up from the original acceptance date. Thankfully 2 days later they called with a date for two weeks out for orientation. So I had my orientation at 9 weeks from Acceptance. After orientation, we were told that we should be scheduled for the first mandatory Nutrition class in approx 4 weeks from Orientation and if we do not hear from anyone after 2 weeks - to call the dept. Well - I waited 2 weeks then called, they then scheduled me for the Nutrition class for 2 weeks later.I just completed the first Nutrition class and now my next appointment should be in approx 2-3 weeks (depending on which surgeon you select or if you don't care which surgeon - they will give you the first avalilable appointment for a Surgeon consult). We were told that we should get a call within 1 week from the Nutrition class to pick a surgeon and establish the surgeon consult appointment date. I've started the recommended 1200 calorie plan approx 2 weeks after the Orientation date. I will find out during the surgeon consult exactly how much weight I need to lose. We were told that it is typically 10% but it can vary...I hope this helps you out.Take care,Sue from Vacaville I can do all things through christ who strengthens me Wanda
Guest guest
Yes, when I was up in SSF a month ago I talked with a woman who had come in for an appointment and expected to be given a surgery date sometime in a few months. . . and the surgeon looked at the calendar, said " We've had someone cancel for next Monday - can you take off work that soon? " and she was in. So the timeline can be very flexible. One of the things to keep in mind with all of this is that we've gotten to the weights we're at over a period of years. We've all tried quick fixes. They don't work. We're also, many of us, control freaks of one sort or another - we want to be able to control our worlds, and if we feel out of control we have to DO something - NOW!!! Well, that doesn't work. We can't always control the world around us. And this isn't a quick fix - it takes time to change yourself as completely as this change will. I know it seems like forever if you're waiting for your first appointment, or for orientation. But use this time to make some of the changes you'll have to do eventually anyway: work on cutting out caffiene or sodas, or stopping smoking if that's part of your life, or start walking or other exercise a little bit at a time. You may not want to start losing weight until after orientation - but there are lots of things you can be doing that will put you ahead of the game even before the first appointment. And all of these things will have a positive effect on your health and your life. Guest guest
Misty - OUCH! It's hard to believe that they are now 1 year out!! I should be getting a call from from the Bariatric Dept sometime the next few days to set-up my Surgery Consult. I will ask her if this is true for newly accepted patients. This whole process is definately teaching me patience! (Connie - my husband would also agree that I have NO patience!!). I don't mind waiting as long as there is communication from the other side telling me what is next and when.... Once I completed the Psych Eval - I was so anxious for the orientation date. I use to check on line several times a day to see if the orientation appt was booked! OK - maybe I have no life ) Based on my experience so far - once Orientation was done - things started moving along quickly - especially if you start the recommended 1200 calorie plan to start losing the 10%. I just now need to have a consistent exercise routine which I am starting to work on!!! Take care, Sue from Vacaville > > > > > > Misty & Connie, I am also going through Richmond. Guest guest
> > About a year from acceptance to surgery date? > This would include the time required to lose the 10%? > > From when I was accepted until I lost the weight was quite a long time. I didn't get serious about losing the weight until this last March. I lost the remaining pounds that I needed and was given a surgery date that was only a few weeks away. So once you meet the surgeon and get your goal weight you only have to wait as long as it takes to lose the weight. You have to keep it off for the 3 to 4 weeks till your surgery though. It isn't a cake walk but you can do it. I am not always feeling 100% but I would do it again in a heartbeat!
