Guest guest
Congrats and best wishes on your upcoming surgery ! Just start getting your list ready and make a trip to Walgreens/Target to get everything you'll need post-op, it will make it a lot smoother. Things like sippy cups, Gladware 4 oz. containers, little 1 oz. medicine cups, baby spoons, and more will all help with your relearning afterwards. For the hospital, make sure to have something comfy to change into and a robe and maybe something to read. I brought way too much to the hospital and really felt more like resting than anything. I'm sure you'll get plenty of advice between now and then. Again best wishes! > Hi, > > My name is . I just joined the list...looking for information > on gastic bypass surgery. Guest guest
Hello , Congrats on the pending life change. As mention in a previous reply, have things prepared for the return home. My wife was running from store to store in looking for those types of things mentioned. Not sure if you're having RNY lap or open, but my suggestion is to get out of the bed as soon as you think you can stand and walk on your own. Walking helped with getting the anethesia residual out of my system. Had a shower within the first 24 hours of post op and it felt great. A good book or something to do to help distract from hospital grind. At home, the first 5 or 6 weeks were getting monotinous as far diet, but within the 2nd week I was walking at least a mile without rest and pushing my self to do it quicker. One thing here, water, do not forget the water!! I about died (figuratively) one day while I was half way through the walk. Follow your physician's advice and program and you'll do fine. This is a great group of people on this message board, you'll come to rely on them often. Best of luck and my your post-op recovery be quick and uneventful. -Ray > Hi, > > My name is . LOL...thanks for the welcome. I'm really excited! The thing I am somewhat concerned about is the tiredness I heard may occur after the surgery. Did you have problems with this? It was good to hear you talk about walking. I am so looking forward to walking without making myself tired. This was the deciding factor for me when I was unable to keep up with a friend as we were sightseeing. Did you have much trouble moving around the first couple of days you were home? I was told that it's borderline for me as far as the surgery goes.
