Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I have been lurking for a couple of weeks and have learned alot from you. Thank you -- thank you. I had a VBG in 1986 and now it is 17 years later. I have managed to keep off 100 lbs of the original 155 I lost initially, but I need a revision. I started at 360 lbs, got down to 205 and then because of depression and other events that were unfortunate at the time, started to gain weight. (I currently weigh 275) It has been a yo-yo battle since then... My insurance is BC/BS Federal and I am not sure whether they will do this for me...does ANYONE out there have a clue as to how to manage them? Guest guest
BCBS Fed is one of the ones who won't pre-approve the original surgery; you have it done, submit the bills and hope they pay. They do if you meet the criteria, etc., but a lot of stress and worry while waiting to see if they pay and then HOW MUCH they pay. I'd suspect they wouldn't tell you up front if they'll pay or not. I'm getting close to plastics consults and haven't found anyone yet who says BCBS paid for that (no one on the lists and AMOS seems to say ANYTHING; yes or no). No way will I have reconstructive surgery if the insurance won't approve ahead of time. I can't afford to get stuck with massive bills. Might be worth your while to start talking to the other federal insurances to see if they'll pre-approve and then switch during open season if you find one. It'd be worth it for a year to do so and you can always go back to BCBS in 2005. It's something I'm contemplating for my plastics when I'm ready. S. Lap RNY 7/5/02 -132 lbs. Guest guest
I've heard so often about insurance cos. not pre-approving surgeries, but for the life of me, I can't understand how this could be legal. My only suggestion would be to call your State Dept. of Insurance, and ask them if you have any recourse. I'd be very curious to hear what they say about it. in NJ *********************** > BCBS Fed is one of the ones who won't pre-approve the original surgery; you have it done, submit the bills and hope they pay. Guest guest
Only observation, but we have lots of Fed in this area. BSBS has paid for revisions and for TT that is requested correctly.
