I was told 8-12 initially, and it ended up being 14. I think I was

ready at 11 though, there were just scheduling problems for the OR

time.

I was told 9-12 months, and it wound up being close to 16, but

several months of that delay was due to scheduling problems (don't

even get me started on my surgeon's office manager....!)

Hi, I was in braces for exactly 24 months before surgery. I am now

almost 6 months post op and i still have them on. I won't get them

off til feb 22nd. This is also the second time I've had them. I hate

braces!

I was told initially 7-9 months. Actually ended up being 12 months.

I just got my braces on 2 days ago, and I was told to anticipate

surgery in about 12 months. We'll see how closely they stick to

that plan...I was hopeful but after reading the previous replies I'm

getting worried. :/

They only put the bottom braces on me this week; I'll get the upper

in 3-4 months probably. My bottom teeth were pretty crowded in the

front, so they needed the most work. My OD said it wouldn't take as

long to straighten the upper so he'd put them on a little later to

spare me having to wear them so long.

I've had braces before so this round of metal is to straighten up

what moved when my wisdom teeth came in and what moved as a result

of my still-growing jaw after the first round of braces came of at

age 13.

Overall time-wise, I was told braces for 12 months prior to surgery,

then 6 months post-op, follwed by retainers. I will be having upper

and lower surgery, by the way.

Hope that helps!

I was told 12 months and was ready for surgery after 9 months, but

waited until 11 months for surgery because of schedule conflicts.

Hi ,

I was told the same, however I waited 15 months. I am hoping to have

my braces off by September...though I am not sure how feasible that

is just yet. Good luck! Jen

I've been an exception to the rule: had the braces on for 1 month

before surgery and 6 months after they came off already! Am in

retainers now. Check out my website for before/after pics:

Well, the people from work I had explained already more or less what

happened (I think maybe half of them really understood by the way).

Other than that, I did very little explaining, I just didn't feel

like it all the time. I think on site 2 there's a really funny file

with things to say after surgery (I remember one where when someone

asks you what happened, you say: too much fizz in my coke!). The gap

closed so quickly I didn't need a lot of explaining. O I remember

something funny too, a while back I saw someone that said: wow your

teeth look really great now, what happened a while back, when you had

that black tooth in the middle? Funny!

Hi:

I have been in braces for 23 months and will be talking to the OD

next Wednesday to see if the impressions that he took at the

beginning of this week show that I am ready or not for the surgery.

I am at the exact same situation. Took some moulds two weeks ago and

am seeing the ortho again in about 10 days to see if I am ready for

surgery.
