Guest guest
I got mine on 7 weeks ago. I thought I would never get used to them and feared I would have to spend 2 years with wax in my mouth and without a single smile. After a few days I got less anxious about what people think because I don't care. I am the one stuck with the metal in my mouth so at least I should have my fun. Actually it is fun to watch how people react and most of them won't notice or if they do they are very tactful (except my teenager students for whom it came as a shock to see me in braces). The first few weeks are tough but then you will get used to them. The cleaning will not change you'll just get faster as you learn the new moves. (I use an ORAL-B oral hygene sp.? unit with waterpic and brushes for ortho and regular and honestly I can't imagine how I could clean my teeth without this!!) My dentist told me not to try to work out how many hours I will spend cleaning teeth in the next 2 years - all those hours lost .... he-he Anyway, it will get better.Good luck. > > Okay, I think I need to find a braces support group!! Guest guest
Diane, Eventually you will get use to them. I have had them on for 5 years now - ugggggggggggh. I just had my top jaw surgery last week. Having Braces with Jaw Surgery has some benefits and disadvantages. Benefits are the bands for wiring my jaw are little hooks on the main brace bands. Don't know if I would call it an advantage. The disadvantage is I have to brush my teeth with a baby toothbrush everytime I eat and then I spend 15 minutes rinsing. My wife asked me what I was doing and I told her I am cleaning my teeth. Wanted to know what the water is always running in the bathroom. I guess she was scared the water bill this month will be huge. I guess I have it easier then most. It's only been 6 days and each day I can feel a huge difference. My Surgeon took a head X-Ray yesterday and showed me my new jaw line. I cried. Was very happy. I have too keep telling myself that soon the darn wires and bands will be off soon and the Ensure Shakes, Snapple Shakes, Carnation Instant Breakfast Shakes, and Strained Soup. My Surgeon said my total time in wired shut would be 12 days. Each day I wake up and mark it off the Calandar. Keep your chin up, those braces will eventually come off. Regards, Will > > Okay, I think I need to find a braces support group!!
