May be a good time for upper body training. Also, paddling around the pool is exercise. Do they have water aerobics? I too would be worried, so maybe our grads can come up with good non weight bearing solutions. I go to one at the park district in the next town over. You don't need to know how to swim to take a water aerobics class. They have them in both deep or shallow water. I actually prefer the deep water, as I feel I have to work harder there, yet there's no impact for my knees and arthritic spine. They have waist belts or foot floats to keep you above the water and they work just great. And when I don't feel like getting up early enuf for class, I just go later on and do the same kinds of exercises on my own for an hour that I remember from previous classes. If there are no classes for you to learn exercises in, you CAN swim with one of those waist belts on. You can buy your own in just about any sporting goods store. And one of the " perks " of going to an indoor pool is that there's almost always a hot tub to go relax in afterwards. Many hotels/motels with indoor pools will " rent " you time in the pool even if you're not staying at the inn, if you don't have any other type of indoor pool available. You might also be able to do some types of yoga positions for your weight-bearing exercise. Again, I find the park district has some really excellent yoga instructors (can't say the same for the tai-chi guy, tho) and once you learn the positions, you can go to doing the stuff in your own home. Finally, you could see a physical therapist and I'm sure they'd be able to tell you a number of things you could do, even with the situation you have. Where there's a will, there's a way. Don't give up. Carol A Knowledge is power.
