Guest guest
Hello, it's Kaitlyn's Mom here! I rarely post but read every day! Today I need some advice about Kaitlyn's bloodwork from 2/15. Her doctor called today with results: CRP = 53 and ESed Rate = 60. She has never tested this high before. When she was diagnosed in 6/07, it was 24 and there was B and urgency and bm's up to 8-10 times a day. Lately her bms are not perfect, but I figured it was from being sick. Bm's 0-2 times per day, mostly 1x/day. She recently had 2 viruses with high fevers (practically back-to-back) that was going around in school, maybe the Adeno virus they say, which lead to a cough which lead to bronchitis. It was her first time with this. The Ped had her take 40mg pred for 4 days ending 1-29, Zithromax 5 days ending 1-30 and inhaler as needed ending 1-29. My question: Can these things (virus, bronchitis, above meds) affect her CRP and Sed Rate this much two weeks later??? I am beside myself! She looks great and played lacrosse tonight!! She says she feels great. I'm freaking out because the GI is talking scoping and the stool samples are not even back yet!! Oh, forgot to mention her hemoglobin is 11.9 so she is not anemic. Her Vit D was somewhat low at 22. GI said it should be 30 or higher. Everything else looked okay, she said. The only other thing that I can think of that might have thrown these numbers off is that while she was off school for DAYS due to the snow, she was playing the Wii. She was playing Wii Sports Resort and swinging her arm around so much she had back muscle spasms and soreness for days. This was right before the blood test. Sorry this is so long. Any thoughts?? - Kaitlyn's Mom Kaitlyn, age 11 CD/UC since 1/07 SCD since 9/07 Med free since 9/08 (except for the bronchitis meds) (recently started back last week on SCD Multi, B Complex, Calcium, turmeric, Vit D3, fish oil & chinese herbs, probiotic & yogurt, medical acupuncture lately)
Guest guest
Any kind of infection or inflammation can raise these lab values. She seems to be feeling well and not having symptoms. I don't think the wii could raise them this high but the virus might. Perhaps the doctor would be willing to repeat the labs in a week or so before putting her through all the tests? Guest guest
Hi PJ, Thanks for responding. I agree, we need to wait a while and then retest! Should get back stool results through Quest Lab by next week. I'm also thinking of doing one of the Geneva Diagnostics stool tests on our own. I'm reading good things about that lab. I really, REALLY don't want to put her through scoping, especially if we are not seeing any B and she's not complaining of anything!!!! I forgot to post before that late July last year she (and some family members) got food poisoning from eating some steamed Chesapeake crabs. Maybe whatever bug that was has really not moved out yet?!?? - > > Kaitlyn's Mom > > Kaitlyn, age 11 > > CD/UC since 1/07 > > SCD since 9/07 > > Med free since 9/08 (except for the bronchitis meds) > > (recently started back last week on SCD Multi, B Complex, Calcium, turmeric, Vit D3, fish oil & chinese herbs, probiotic & yogurt, medical acupuncture lately) > > >
Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for your post! Sorry your doctor scared you too..... it's no fun! All this worrying is making my blood pressure go up, literally, so I'm going to try to calm down. SCD has always come through for her and we won't retest for at least another month as long as she's feeling fine. Our regularly scheduled GI appt is the end of March. I'll repost if anything crazy comes up on her stool test. Thanks again, - > > Hi , > I think all this could get her numbers out of whack for awhile. Guest guest
, Good luck to both of you. The worry and scares really do upset everything, don't they? I hope things will calm down for you both now. Hi , Thanks for your post! Sorry your doctor scared you too..... it's no fun!
