Guest guest
a few questions > Can DSer's drink with their meal? Absolutley!!!! And I do! > What are some of you taking in the way of supplements? I take 6 vita4life and 6 calcium citrate per day > Do you increase dosage of medications? Only if labs show it needs to be done....Im 9 months out and only had to increase Vit D > How big is your stomach or pouch or whatever? What do you call it? My stomach started out at 5 ounces and is now 9-10 ounces which is normal..it is not called a pouch. that is reserved for the RNYers whose stomachs have been mutilated! > DS doesn't have a stoma, but do we still have to chew the dickens out > of our food? There isn't any place for it to get stuck, right? Right....you dont need to chew your food to death like the RNYers do.....no place for it to get stuck! No. Actually, I have decreased (diuretic, beta blocker) or eliminated (Lipitor--statin) my other meds since losing some of my weight, and all might be eliminated by the time I reach my goal weight. >How big is your stomach or pouch or whatever? Mine is about the size of a deflated football. Others have bigger ones. That's one instance where I don't envy those with bigger ones than mine ;-) >What do you call it? " Rover. " Or " Hut-hut. That is, unless you are trying to empathize with an RnY patient. >There isn't any place for it to get stuck, right? If the piece of meat is too big, it can get stuck in your throat. See " Heimlich Maneuver. " Seriously, once it gets to the stomach, normal digestion handles it well. Not so in the RnY. HOWEVER...your newly reduced stomach and your new intestinal interconnections would be sore and tender for a month or so, which means that you should not test them with difficult things like a big hunk of unchewed meat for several weeks-to-months. But, four months out, I eat just about everything that I had eaten pre-op, and take no special precautions as to how much I chew it before swallowing. --Steve -- Steve Goldstein, age 61 Lap BPD/DS on May 2, 2001 Dr. Elariny, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Virginia Starting (05/02/01) BMI = 51 BMI on 09/04 =

Guest guest
I have a little different experience. I was instructed in the beginning not to eat and drink at the same time. It causes a " flushing " in you that can trigger cramps. But after a short time of healing I was able to. And I'm on Zoloft and had to double the dosage.
