by a stool test. So it is really your decision to make having done your

research but personally I think it is very wrong to keep on saying that

this ‘friendly’ bacteria is illegal. I for one and I know there are many

others who take bifidobacterium.

Steve,

I've been on SCD for almost nine years. I could probably have added some

non-SCD foods in my this time, but I have CHOSEN to stay strict.

In that nine years, I've seen MANY reports of people taking bifidus and

getting horridly sick from it. In point of fact, I've gotten sick

from it three times -- once before SCD, and twice since.

It's true that Elaine said she didn't know everything there was to know

about probiotics.

However, the " science has moved on " crap is an argument that

will not fly with me.

" Science moved on " and found that you didn't have to follow

that horrid, strict Haas diet... it was so old fashioned. All you had to

do was follow gluten free, and if you stuffed people full of starches and

gums and they got sicker, well, they had some other disease that clearly

wasn't celiac, because celiacs only reacted (they said) to

gluten.

Well, I'd be dead today if it weren't for that horrid, old-fashioned,

out-of-date Haas diet which was resurrected by Elaine Gottschall.

That diet says no bifidus. And that's the rule I will follow -- and I

will continue to remind people that bifidus and many other darlings of

the modern probiotic world are SCD-illegal.

Steve,

This is an SCD board.

Bifidus is SCD-illegal.

As owner, I allow a certain amount of non-SCD material on this board.

If you choose to use bifidus, that's your prerogative. It's a free world.

But I respectfully request that you not recommend bifidus on this board.

Discussion of specifically illegal items as an option on SCD is not

permitted.

The comparison of yogurt eaters to non-yogurt-eaters has little to do

with bifidus or not-bifidus. That is simply a matter of a tolerated food

versus a non-tolerated food.

I will also state that if you do not see the progress you hope for from

SCD, that you consider yanking the bifidus. One of the things I have

learned in nine years is that very often, people will come wailing that

" SCD doesn't work! " and when we dig into what the person is

eating and what supplements they are taking, we frequently find that

there are illegals like bifidus -- and when the illegals are removed,

progress is seen.

When I first started SCD, I was convinced that fanatical adherence to SCD

as written was just fanatical. I set out, on numerous occasions, to prove

that Elaine was too strict. Every time, I managed to prove that she was,

if anything, too lenient.

Thanks to Marilyn, Steve and many others who devote their time

to answer our repeating questions...

I have to say that this a wonderful support group for beginners

like me, so different technical views should not set us apart.. :  )

I have seen your

correspondence on these boards about this subject with other people. Of course

you have a right to make your point but I would politely suggest you must allow

others to make theirs.

Bifidobacterium are normal

inhabitants of the GI tract. If people get sick from taking them then perhaps

they have Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) for which they can be

tested for. And if they do have SIBO then they would then be advised to deal

with that issue. If on the other hand someone is deficient in bifidobacterium,

as in my case, they could also become very sick.

One of the most researched

and successful probiotics is Align which is B.Infantis. Read the reviews for it

on Amazon for it, so many people get great benefit for it. In fact only tonight

I was talking to someone who had horrible digestive issues for several years

and they are all now resolved due solely to taking Align.

There are many places to

see good reports for taking Bifidobacterium, one of which is here

http://www.probiotics-lovethatbug.com/bifidobacterium.html

Many people here get sick

from eating yoghurt and cannot tolerate

it………………………….but

that isn’t illegal, in fact quite the opposite.

I was merely pointing out

to Ozgur that he should weigh up the options for himself and then decide.

Regards

Steve
