Guest guest
Reasons to get the screws and plates removed vary from one individual to another. For some people, it's pain. I can't explain all the technicalities of this because I'm not an expert but I was explained that around foreign parts (in our bodies), some kind of tissue forms to avoid abrasion. This tissue will remain there until new tissue is formed, this one being of the same nature as the rest of your flesh. That's when, for some people, pain can develop. I'm on a watch list for that. Although I do believe I'm out of danger now, but around December, I would have removed the screws and plates myself because of the constant itching and pain that were going on. Especially in the cheeks. Today, if I don't touch my face too much, I won't notice the pain (or it won't show up at all). As for when this could be done, my surgeon told me that unless it became medically required (if my body would start to reject the pieces), she always wait a year after the initial surgery before removing them. That puts me in June. But she insisted, 99% of the times, the hardware stays. Now, for the cost, well I'm in Canada. I only pay for a few things, so it should be around 700$, probably less. Guest guest
Ehh... I just bit my tongue, yesterday, it got stuck in the bottom wire... doest that answer your question? :-) Seriously, I'll talk with the ortho first. Perhaps he'll come up with a way to convince me to keep them.. But, I'm still hoping he'll remove them. I really don't like them.
