Guest guest
Carol, I am so sorry to hear about your daughters blister. We switched to the s after a bad experience with the Markells. My son has been wearing the 's for 2 weeks and not a single mark on his feet. He is happy with it on (a little screaming to put it on.) I would recommend them to everyone. I would have paid even more $$ if I had known the peace it has brought to our family. Her toes curve over so that the toenail is a bit on the side of her foot rather than on the top so the shoe evidently rubbed it. There is a dark red blister and some dried blood (black) under the skin of her toenail on the side. I don't think I can put these shoes back on my baby. I will get her in to see her orthopedist tomorrow but it is breaking my heart. screamed and cried for about the first 12 hours in the shoes (unless she was nursing or sleeping), but she seemed to adjust and has been pretty happy today. I have thought of going to see Dr. Ponseti and wonder if I should order the shoes. I don't care what it costs...insurance didn't even pay for the Markells' and the DBB...I just want my baby to be comfortable and have good feet. Guest guest
nne, Thank you for your response. I have contacted the company and am working on getting the shoes for her. We will need to recast in the meantime but I think it will be worth it. The casts were so much more straightforward than the shoes and I knew they were not hurting her. She had several red marks besides this sore, which I now know is a pressure sore and is black/dark purple surrounded by red. It is really nasty looking and must hurt. The price we were quoted for the shoes was $382.00 and I am assuming that is without the bar. Did your s come with a bar? I will get another bar for her, too, since the DBB is so heavy she doesn't have the strength to lift it. Thanks again! Carol and , bcf, 10-27-05 Re: help! Guest guest
Carol, the bar is included in that price. Your first pair of shoes come with the bar. Your next pair will my cheaper than the $380, significantly because it is only shoes you'll need. I'm so glad you got hold of (or probably Jeanne, his wife) and are getting this going. You are right, a dark purplish/black spot is the beginning of a pressure sore so you have likely caught it in time. It will likely heal ok without anything on it putting more pressure (which breaks the skin, and then it's a REAL sore.... ouch!). I know this sore well... It is the one my daughter had for so long. I did not get the pressure off and it was nasty. Good mama! Kori At 07:23 PM 12/30/2005, you wrote: >nne, > >Thank you for your response. Guest guest
Replacement shoes from then on without the bar (at some point you will need a new one) is $295 just so you know. Thought this littl bit of input could shed some light on savings. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Shopping Find Great Deals on Holiday Gifts at Yahoo! Guest guest
Thanks, Kori. Yes, it was Jeanne who responded to my email. I am so glad to have a good alternative to the current shoes that I will pay whatever it costs! I cannot risk another sore like the one she has. She is so tiny to have such a terrible looking thing on her foot. It doesn't look significantly better after two days but I'm sure it will just take time to heal. The orthopedist can cast her and keep pressure off the sore part since it is on her big toe at the side/front so that is good. I never knew this would be such a complex issue to get her feet fixed! I am grateful for this group to help. Carol Re: help! Blister after 24 hours in the DBB > > > Carol, > I am so sorry to hear about your daughters blister. Guest guest
My son Rory just started in Markell's with a DBB yesterday. We have been taking the shoes off every 5 hours or so to check for sores/blisters. Can you share with me what it will look like when it starts? He has redness across the back of his heels (up higer on his ankle almost) is this bad? Plus, he's been extra fussy and I'm not sure how to tell if he's getting a blister. His feet are red and wrinkled from the casts so I'm not sure what redness to look out for. Thanks, & Rory rcf 11-2-05 > > (age 2 months with bcf) got her Markell shoes with the 6 inch > > DBB yesterday afternoon.
