Guest guest
sounds like he is really trying to comply- other than no pullup, going through the ritual again, and signing In the potty_ while he sits, I dont know- of course with out the pull up he might stand to poop pick it up and put it in the potty. F OT: Potty training update > First, thanks for the many responses. My son is so literal. His mini schedule now has a real picture of BM in the potty. So,he sits on the potty in a pull up with a hole cut in it,sits 20 minutes while listening to a cassette with book. When the cassette is done,he stands up and declares " all done sitting on potty " .He nows stands to have his BM,luckily the hole in the pull up was too small. He assists with removing the pull up,dumps the BM in the potty and declares with huge smile " Poop in the potty " as he removes the card off the schedule which says just that and says " Zachary sticker!!!! " Well, I still didn't give him the sticker and he doesn't understand because he did what the mini schedule said to do. So,how do I make him realize what he is missing.? I will get that everyone poops book because I heard it was good. Somehow he needs to visualize the action. > > >

Our in home therapists consulted with a " potty " specialist (LOL!). Anyway, we were told to put him in the thick padded underwear, no pullups. Instead of using a schedule, we used a laminated social storey that had about 8 pictures, each numbered. Each individual picture on the card, listed the steps, and was very literal. We would read it to him, and at first, we placed him on the potty every 20 minutes. It became quite clear that he would hold it, hide and pee or poop in his underwear!!! He understood the storey, just not willing to do it. We were told that when he pooped or went pee in his undies, he was to clean it up! We were to act indifferent to the whole thing, like it was no big deal. He hated cleaning up his messes, and changing himself. However, after about a week, we finally got him to go pee on the potty. We had a tube of jungle animals, that was concealed with construction paper, so he couldn't see inside. His reward for going pee, one animal from the tube. After three weeks, we had no more accidents, and he started asking to be put on the potty. I'm happy to report that its been 3 months, and he now goes alone, and is only assisted with wiping after going number two. a - Peoria IL mom to Alec 7, 5.2 (ASD), 3.5 Get more from the Web.
