C,

his has been one of those ugly cry days that makes my stitches hurt,

my nose stopped up and animal noises though clenched teeth. And now

my husbabd is trying to make me eat beef strogonof through a

syringe! But you have got me rolling! You are the best medicine

truly. Keep em coming!

Ummmm. Somebuddy trying to make somebuddy eat beef stroganoff... Oh,

what a sweet notion!

Ok. Nevermind. At least now, three years post op, I can have a

carrot stick and a piece of broccoli dunked in ranch dressing (low-

cal, of course). But honestly, I like that as much as Beef S. (I

started to type B.S., but decided that was not a good idea....)

Sigh...

I don't think it actually took that long; it's just that I was overly

cautious...

I've now fallen enough times that I'm pretty confident that those

little screws will keep on holding my jaw where it belongs to be (I

don't recommend that as part of the security-building system, though;

I have some other problems that make me a frequent faller... Only

wish I got " frequent faller miles " or some other compensation!)

I was just in no hurry. I think that probably by eight weeks post op

I could have eaten whatever. I was fortunate in not having problems

opening my mouth -- some folks do have to work up to their normal

opening, after being wired or tightly banded shut.

I would think a corn chip would not be a very difficult thing to take

on, once you're healed... Bone generally, we're told, heals in eight

weeks. Although I had a weird wisdom tooth (it had an extra cusp)

that caused me a lot of problems after the surgery -- I kept biting

my cheek, right on the line of the scar tissue, as a result of it --

and in exasperation one day I asked my surgeon why we didn't just

take the danged thing out. " We're not removing any tooth today, " he

told me emphatically, in January after surgery in June. " I want that

jaw to be a lot more solid before we even talk about that. "

As it happened, my dentist reshaped the tooth, which sits where my

six-year-molar should be, and all was well without removing anything.

As for elastics, I know exactly how they feel. I don't hold the

record, but at one point post op I had either five or six of the

things in an assortment of sizes and arrays, to " tighten " the bite. I

didn't much like them, but I got along with them, and they did their

job. It was certainly nice, though, when I was no longer " ballistic. "
