Guest guest
I had upper/lower and genio. Apparently I was mumbling post-op but I didn't know it, I thought I was speaking normally. What you'll find is that you really have to enunciate initially, and that your facial muscles will get sore pretty quickly if you talk too much. This could also lead to more swelling. You may also find that your cheeks and inside of your lips are much more sensitive to the sharp braces post-op, and less movement is desirable to avoid abrasions and cuts. I made the decision to use a whiteboard for the first few weeks post- op, and to talk very little in order to allow myself proper healing. I went back to work after 5 weeks and still found it tiring to talk very much. I really can't say when it became easier. I don't have to talk a lot in my job, but of course, everyone wanted to know how things went. I just explained that talking was not easy right now and that I needed to minimize it for awhile. Hope that helps, > > Hi guys, > > I was wondering if anyone who has had lower jaw surgery and even > genioplasty struggled to speak after the surgery, how bad it was and > how long it lasts...Could you work if you needed to talk at work > quite a bit? > > Thanks > >
