I've heard that the hanger helmet is similar to the STARband, but ask them this to be sure. My understanding is that the difference in treatment is partly due to the expertise of the orthotist. Doc band has a very good reputation and it was recommended to me because of my daughter's age. In the end we went with the STARband because of multiple reasons. 1. It was cheaper for self-pay and neither were covered by our insruance. 2. It was closer. 3. We could get her started sooner since we had already had her consultation there and time was important because she was older. 4. There was a possibility she could stay in the band longer since it lasts for up to 6 months rather than 4 months. Because of her age, both companies told us that they wouldn't do a second band. 5. I was more impressed with the people I spoke to at the local STARband place than the person I spoke to over the phone at the closest CT.

We have had good results in our STARband despite 's age. Just ask lots of questions about experience, etc. I don't think you can go wrong with the doc band, but you can possibly get as good results with Hanger. Just ask questions. Good luck.

Trying to make a decision on what company to go with for a cranial band. Help!My daugther is 5 months old and we have already had her evaluated for a DOC band and she is a good candidate. However the clinic is not close by and it is out of network. We have an evaluation at Hanger tomorrow here in fort worth, texas. Does anyone have advice on the differences in different brands of helmets/bands or companies and which one is better than others. we are going to see what they tell us at Hanger and then make a decision but I wondered if there were any other parents out there in this area who have used Cranial Tech or have chosen a place like Hanger etc. instead. Needing advice on this!

My dd had 2 hanger bands - If I knew then what I know now... I would have gone with CT.

Our ortho was great... but I don't think the band was made very well. It felt genereic... not specific to our dd.

Honestly, the ortho is the key to getting the best treatment though.

At CT they are trained to ONLY do bands... at Hanger they do all sorts of prostetic and orthotics... so you will find orthos with alot of banding experience and some with little exp.

Ask the ortho alot of questions... how many kids has he/she banded? How many a month? A year? How long practicing? Etc.

Also, you can loo thru old messages here to see if anything has been posted about your specific hanger facility.

We were going through the same thing CT is far away and out of network while hanger is in network. I went back and forth tying to decide what to do. We went to a Cranial Facial Specialist who told us that he thinks you get the best results from CT. So tomorrow we are going for our imaging appointment at CT.
