There are many...we use the Eddie Bauer which is made in Canada which

has slightly higher saftey standards than the US currently has. I have

heard people rave about the Britax brand, but they are quite pricey.

Any seat that is wider than 14 in. should be fine and if you are using

an infant carrier seat, it dosen't even need to be that wide as you

will need to get another seat when baby grows out of that, our daughter

was out of her infant seat at 6 mos.

Thank you for your response. My daughter is 10 weeks old and we are

having difficult time with the car seat we currently have because it

is only 11 inches wide and her feet are restrained apart at 13 1/2

inches. I think we will get a convertible seat so that she can grow

with it.

Thanks again,

my son has a db bar (his first one)...I guess they

widen them as we go along to make sure that the feet

stay shoulder length apart). We have a Graco car seat

and he has plenty of room for his feet and his bar :)

I would imagine though, that since the bar is supposed

to be the same width as shoulder to shoulder, any type

of car seat that your child can fit into, the bar

should fit as well. I am not sure though if some

doctors space the feet further apart.

We're in the UK so don't know if car seats are the

same but we have a Maxi-Cosi carbrio.

Our son is slightly older than most children, 6 months

when he started the boots and bars now 9 months, and

his feet actually stick out the end of the car seat so

no problem but really if he was any smaller they would

not fit in our car seat AT ALL. The seats may be the

width of the bar but when you take into account that

the feet stick out at angles and the bar is only to

the heel there really isn't room for him to fit.

Hope this is of some help to you

Good Luck in your car seat search!

You can also use a rolled up receiving blanket or small towel to lift

the feet up a bit so they fit better.

We too had to switch to a convertible car seat earlier than we had

planned. Aleksander's legs with the shoes on just didn't fit in the

infant seat.

We have two different seats (one in each car). Both are wonderful,

easy to install, the straps don't get twisted, and it is easy to

operate. We have the Graco Comfortsport and the Evenflo Triumph.

We've been using them both for at least 9 months, and our son is now

forward facing. Switching the seats around was very easy, adjusting

the straps is extremely easy, and most importantly, buckling him in is

very easy.

Oh, yes, and he fits quite nicely in both seats, with or without the

shoes on!

Hello,

We went with the Britax brand after trying an Evenflo one that I couldn't

stand and it is great! The straps are so easy to adjust, don't twist easily

and the seat is rated as one of the top (was the top one when I last

checked) on Consumer Reports as far as safety goes.

They do cost more but they'll be using it for a while, I figure. The Evenflo

one seemed to have twisted straps every time I went to use it and it was so

irritating!

It is nice and wide too so probably would be good for the DBB.

10 weeks old and 13-1/2 " FAB??? Even if you take the shoe width off

that makes for about a 10 " bar. I seriously wonder about a 10w old

in a 10 " bar. Darbi was a big baby, and had a larger bar than normal

at 8 " for her first bar. She didn't take a 10 " bar till much later,

I'd say around a year old?? If you take the brace and hold it up to

baby's shoulders with heels pointing towards baby, do the shoulders

just fit inside the heels or is there room to spare? If so, the bar

is too long and should be replaced with one appropriately sized (heel

to heel shoulder width, or bolt to bolt... or somewhere in between...

but no larger and no smaller) for your baby. You really should be

able to use your infant seat at this age, even with a FAB but in all

honesty... expecting much more than 6mo's out of an infant seat for

any baby is a little too optimistic. Infant seats have length

limits, and most now are outgrown at 26 " anyway. Check the manual

with your infant seat to see what the length limit is so you

know. We had to switch my firstborn to a convertible carseat at

4mo's and his seat at the time was good to 27 " .

Now onto seats... I honestly cannot recommend Britax any more. I

have 5 of them, and would never have anything else. They make a

great seat now that is good to 65 pounds. So your precious little one

can be safely and comfortably restrained in a 6 point harness well

into kindergarten or 1st grade, or longer depending on body type

(girls likely will be tinier than boys many times). If you like your

child safe... this one seat will last you nearly till your child is

tall enough to use a regular seatbelt safely. Money spent now... is

money saved later when you end up having to put your 3-4yo into a

booster seat with shoulder strap only because the standard weight

limit for convertible seats is 40 pounds. Some children may even hit

40 pounds before the age of 3... who wants their 3yo in a shoulder

strap only? I sure as heck wouldn't... (no offense to those who do

this, but it scares the livin crud out of me to think of a 3yo in a

booster and shoulder strap should an accident occur). No way, for me

it's 5point as long as humanly possible. And the 65 pound seat is

exactly what I would buy for my baby if I had to do it all over again

(I have the Roundabouts and Freeway's - both are good only to 40

pounds but they didn't have the 65# model when I needed to buy seats).

Alright, I typed this days ago... don't remember if I needed to

finish or what but if so it'll be later today,. sending as is...

Wow that 13 " bar sounds huge! Not sure about that, but with seats, most the

time Everett had one leg slightly higher in the other as he got bigger cuz of

the bar but it wasn't any big deal. And now days he's rarely in the car with

the bar on anyway.
