recovery time after surgery

Ciao ciao all,

I'm scheduled to have an upper & lower jaw surgery on May 4. My

friends & I have an annual Vegas trip every memorial day weekend.

Now's the time to get tickets, and I'm wondering if a 20 person 3

day vegas party is wise/feasible three weeks after surgery? Please

share your thoughts on recovery for work/school and play.

Cheers,

in the bay area

I think a big part of it has to do with how you are secured... My

doctor was supposed to put the little screws in me - rigid fixation-

which I requested and wanted. If he would have done that, I would have

been wired for a week and then slowly been introducing soft foors by

the end of week two with no cray wires and I would be able to talk

clearly. Instead, I woke up from surgery to learn he has NOT used the

screws and I was only wired shut. That means that I am wired and

splinted for 2.5 weeks and have a liquid only diet and I will be banded

shut for 3-4 more weeks, mumbling like a freak all day long.

My surgery was Jan 24th and My 5 year college major (I had a very

specialuized major and an very close class) reunion is on Feb 17th. I

will certainly be well enough to go but do I really want to show up

with my teeth banded shut looking like Josie Grossie? I think i am

probably going to skip it and I am very, very sad.

Also, I only had lower... you're healing time will probably be a bit

longer but i still think t goes back to the fixture used to clamp you.

T.
