However, some individuals who are very sensitive to soy found that some soy oils still contained some of the soy proteins which were the culprit. As a consequence, the Autism community felt that eliminating soy altogether was worthwhile. Some people take it to what I feel are extremes, and eliminate anything derived from soy. Still, they might have a point. So much soy is gene-modified these days, and even if I weren't allergic, I'd prefer to avoid it. I am anaphylactic where soy is concerned. I stop breathing. (Will never forget, pre-SCD, when a local bakery eliminated one of the expensive grains from their multi-grain bread and substituted soy flour. I was munching down on a sandwich and started gasping and wheezing. That was my first lesson in always reading labels.) However, I can tolerate soy oil (though I don't bother normally, since there are many oils to choose from). I can tolerate lecithin, which is often derived from soy -- I use it as an emulsifier in salad dressings, and one or two other things, but I do not use it as a supplement. And, I can tolerate Vitamin E supplements which are often derived from soy. What I cannot tolerate is soy protein. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
I'm think that Elaine made soybean oil illegal because they are so genetically modified. It's hard to find chicken that has no added broths. I get on Farms and my local A/G (Associated Grocers) brand chicken doesn't have any broth. I never eat chicken out because they can't tell me if it had broth added before purchasing. It's just something I've lived without when eating out the last 2 years. One- in the book it says that soybean oils, and ALL oils for that matter are " legal " , but then in the website it says soybean oil is illegal. Anyone know which rings true for the diet? Secondly, I remember reading in the book to stay away from chicken broths (unless homemade of course). But nealry ALL chicken in the grocery store have added broth! You have to search high and low to find organic chicken wihout any added broth, and if at a restaurant I more than certain thy don't serve organic chicken.... Does this mean I have to stay away from chicken while eating out? Or is that sort of " broth " ok... Please help!! >
