Is this something I should worry about while I'm upping my probiotics or should I ask my my money back (it was not cheap) and look for something at the health food store. FOS, fructooligosaccharides are not SCD legal. People will tell you that it only feeds the good bacteria, but that's nonsense. Guest guest
FOS can cause some serious problems for compromised digestive systems, and Elaine said no to it. There are other alternatives for probiotics that don't contain illegals. I've never found any legal probiotics in my local stores; I use online/mail-order sources. There's a list in the group Files of the companies with links. Basically you want only L. Acidophilus, or S. Boulardii (for those who don't tolerate Acidophilus). The sources we use are: GIProHealth, Lucy's Kitchen (Lyosan), Kirkman Labs and Custom Probiotics. Also be aware that massive doses of anything, including probiotics, tend to cause more reactions, and can quickly trigger a sensitivity. My philosophy is to keep doses small but regular. My body absorbs more, and my immune system doesn't react. But that's my choice, and one that is necessary as my body is very very intolerant of supplements and medications. I get so irritated at my doctors who quickly tell me to take large doses when I have told them repeatedly over the years that I had to lower the dose just to get it past my immune system [grrh]... That is their usual response when your blood work indicates a deficiency -- just take a larger dose!! In my case, I just have to give my body time to heal, and keep doses small but regular. Just something to think about! Kim M. SCD 6 years > > Hi. I went to see a new doc yesterday and he upped my probiotics (for 3 weeks) from 5 billion to 125 billion.
