Guest guest
, I hate to say it, but I'm the same way in public now. My husband has to tell me to shut up about it, we talk about it so much. It's amazing to me...We went to Golden Corral for lunch on Saturday and had the buffet..I had about 2 bites of meat loaf (yuck) and 1/2 of a hamburger...while I saw this other lady who was bigger (than me! I've never had that happen!) who I saw go up to the buffet 5 different times, then go back for dessert (a piece of pie, some banana pudding and chocolate cake!). I was looking at my husband like, 'can you believe that!' with my eyebrows raised and he said, " Don't forget, you used to do that too! " Which brought me to Earth real fast! It amazes me though. T. Guest guest
I too have always and am always the biggest person in the room. And I know that people look at me and watch what I am eating. It isn't fair, but that is the fact of life. But you have to keep in mind that it was you not long ago. These people just are not as informed as you are and may not know that there is a tool available to them to help them out. Be proud of yourself, but be careful not to become one of the people who have hurt your feelings in the past by watching and talking about you. I think that is something that everyone who loses a bunch of weight will struggle with at some point or another. It is just like people who smoke. Reformed smokers are much worse about telling people how bad it is and those who have never smoked. RE: looking at others :-)))))))))))) , I hate to say it, but I'm the same way in public now. And every one of us who has had to resort to surgery in a desperate attempt to gain something of a " normal " life. If it weren't for the surgery, that would still be you. And me. I try not to judge when I see how much others eat, though sometimes I feel sad for someone who is large (like me) and who is trapped in his or her habits of eating badly and far too much. Rather than thinking about what the other person is eating, I look at what I eat and think, " I remember when this amount was NOTHING to me. " Yesterday I was able to eat an entire Mc's cheeseburger, though I felt uncomfortably full afterwards. But I thought, as I ate the thing slowly, how it used to be NOTHING for me to go to the drive through and order three or four big sandwiches and a big order of fries. I have to remind myself of that because there is the fear that someday I will be back there again. And that I am already able to eat an entire cheeseburger is an indication that this future may be out there. That's a path I've been on before, and God help me, could be again unless I can control myself. That's why I can't criticize others for how they eat. Guest guest
Good thread... Unfortunately, I do not have to go out to dinner to see the larger portions being consumed. I look at my growing children and see the amount of food on their plates and often say to my self, there is no way that I could finish that, and I tell them that. As for looking at others, the first thing I thought of when I began to read the thread was, that was me just 14 weeks and 90 pounds ago. As someone has alluded to, I feel sorry for those that are as big as I was and eat like there's no tomorrow. Maybe its my own shame that I feel knowing that I was just like them. It was nothing for me to eat a 16 oz steak, large sweet potato with butter and sugar cinnamon, a large salad, mini loaf of bread then top everything off with a slice of pie and ice cream, in all about 3500 calories in one sitting. And honestly, without the surgery, today, I'd probably still be doing the same amount of eating. Even though I've had the surgery, it was not without sacrifice and pain. Not being able to eat my favorite foods still bother from time to time. The occassional bouts of nausea are also a reminder of the commitment and surgery. I know this is way off the inital topic, but this is the type of emotion such a thought can stir inside me. Again, great thread because it make us think of who we were, are and can become without the intervention of WLS. -Ray > > > For those of you who have had the surgery and been thru liquid and pureed and our little ozs of food, when you go to a social occasion and lets say its a buffett... Guest guest
your message made me laugh. okay maybe we were that way too but we have earned the right to notice. and i guess it teaches us some lessons but sometime we just gotta see the humor in life. if that lady has surgery, she will notice all this too. > , > > I hate to say it, but I'm the same way in public now. Guest guest
I find myself amazed at things like that too. My MIL was here last night, they NEVER come here, and they stayed for dinner ( I made shepards pie) and she ate 3 large plates, WOW, i was amazed she could hold that much in. She actually should not even eat like that since she is diabetic and has had open heart bypass years ago, she made herself overheated and tunred on the a/c behind her where she was sitting to cool down.
