I believe there is one surgeon but most people in Canada are on 1 and 2 year

waiting lists for surgery. I don't think its the route to go if you live in

the US....

Canada has Socialized medicine- There are docs doing it up there . THey

have incredible waiting lists though, and won't take American pt.s because

they are just too swamped.

The Duodenalswitch.com has a list of the docs doing the ds--it is fairly

complete.

You can go to Spain....It was 17000.00 including paying for 2 people, an

extra week in a hotel and airfare (3 seats). The surgery was just over 10,300.

In Washington State it is on average about $25,000 with Dr. Heap. He will

get you out of the hospital as quick as medically necessary and into ahotel

since its cheaper...

Other states are more expensive....at least in my research...I think the two

above are the cheapest...and from there it can go up to $50,000 or more if

you have complications etc. Depends on the state, dr etc.

Noel,

I started doing the same thing. There are a couple of things

that I have tried. One is doing strictly protein for a few days. The

other thing I have had to do is get all of the sugar and carbs out of my

house. I have some carbs but it is not nearly as much and not usually

what I want. I have stocked up on fruits and veggies. The other thing I

am considering is counseling. It is time for a checkup and to help get

my mind back on track.

Congratulations!!! I`m glad you made it. I`m sorry to hear about the poor care.

That stinks.

Hi everyone! I made it!!!!! went in friday we showed up an hour

early as there was no traffic and a good thing as they ended up

wanting to take me in early I was in the OR bfore 11:15 an hour

early. Surgery had no complications and then by 5 I was in my own

room, Unfortunately that is when my horror story begins!!!! I had

teh WORST care ever at Portland Adventist! The nurses were rude

wouldn't get me any water, yelled at me and said I was moving too

slowly ( Oh sorry I have a catheder hanging out of me, I am doped on

morphine and I just had my guts rearranged )They would put my " clean

beedding and my robe on the floor walk over them then put them on

me! Left me alone for LOOOOONG periods of time 4-6 hours where no

one would check in on me. Unfortunatly my family were mostly up in

washington with my mom who also just had a different surgery so I

really didn't have anyone there to stick up for me. I came home

early so I could get out of there!

I am feeling much better today after finally getting some sleep last

night,

I DO WANT TO THANK SANDRA Turchan ANd LINDA for coming in saturday

and seeing me that was very speicial and ment ALOT TO ME!!!!!!!

So far no problems am eating between 1 - 1.5 oz a meal, carnation

instant breakfast, cottage cheese, refried beans mixed in tonight

(hopfully that will settle!)

Good luck to everyone still waiting for this wonderful tool, I still

have no regrets- the rewards are soooo much bigger than these little

problems right now. Keep in touch

That's depends on why you are depressed and if you are getting treatment for

it. Not knowing either of those, I really couldn't say. I CAN tell you that

the surgery will NOT take your depression away. Good luck and I hope you get

help if you aren't already.

Hey Shirley

I am going through the process with Pacific Bariatric in San Diego, In fact

I am from riverside. I have Blue Shield and I finished my classes with

Beaver Medical back in December. that was a 5 month class. I went to the

seminar in San Diego in March. they have you fill out the questionnaire and

take a test. As far as paperwork, my doctor was pretty quick at faxing

everything over to them. One suggestion I had previous heard is that you

get the copies of the paperwork and either take it down there yourself or

fax it yourself. The staff there will ask you how you want to procedure

done, via lap or open and chose a doctor for you, then schedule a marathon

of appointments . My doctor is Dr. . Who seemingly takes so

long to do paperwork. My hold up is her paperwork now. I have been waiting

a month for her to review my paperwork and schedule a date. I did find a

website of the patients that had it at Pacific Bariatric. e-mail me and I

will forward them on to you. It is wonderful to here from someone out here

that is going to San Diego. I hope to continue our conversations. You may

e-mail me at seekhimfirst2003@... or jphillips@...

it took my incision nearly 5 weeks to completely close. when i talked to my

nurse and dr. about it they said that was nothing unnormal. people heal

differently. as long as there is no reddness or fever it was ok. also depends

on

whether you have diabetes or not. i didn't but still took me a little longer.

just have to be patient, but i would still check with your dr. or PCP. take

care and God bless!

Where are you from in Wisconsin I'm in s Point, and we have a terrific

support group that meets once a month and also has a Yahoo group. I know that

there are others in the state, I think Wausau and Eau Claire also have a group.

I am pre op, but finally got my surgery date, and I'm excited. I was quite

surprised at all of the support people there are here, and the post op

counseling that's available.

(unknown)

Hi everyone, I am just turning 33 and from Wisconsin, and i first

just wanted to say that I am really glad I came across this website.

We do not have a supporst group in our community for gastric bypass

patients and was wondering where I was gonna turn for all the

questions I had and support I may need. Second, can anyone tell me

if it is normal to still have openings in the incision from an open

RNY after almost 4 weeks? I asked my surgeon, but she more or less

blew off the question and said that i was doing fine. And if you are

wondering I started out at 357 and am now at 322. YIPEEEEE!!!!

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Thank you for the information . I am from Antigo and the

procedure is fairly new here. (I believe they have only been doing

it here for about 7 months now) I have had very good pre-op teaching

but now it just seems like there isn't much for me. Maybe I will

check into the group in Wausau. Congrats on getting your date!

Starlet,

Don't let that get you down. That is a major major step you are taking. I

think it would be normal to be a little anxious getting prepared for the

surgery. Hang in there, you are going to do fine.

Hi Anne,

It does sound like you've got pulmonary sarcoidosis that is in flare. As for the oxygen, I've been on it for a number of years-- and find that it's necessary pretty much full time.

As for the low blood pressure, did you feel as though you would pass out, or that you couldn't breath?

This would be signs to get checked out-- but I don't know that it was an emergency. Did your bp go up when you started moving around?

Alot of times, our blood pressure will drop low when we've been sitting around for the majority of the time.

Deep breathing exercises are great, but with pulmonary sarc, you have to make sure that your oxygen saturation levels stay up. We have a tendency to breath shallowly, and that makes for alot of carbon dioxide build up in our lungs, some of the signs are a blue hue under the fingernails, lips looking a bit blue, numbness in our hands and feet- as our body needs to keep the oxygen going ot the vital organs, so it slows circulation to the extremities.

With the supplemental o2 you should do fine.

Take care,

Hi all, I am still in a rehab center and was doing really well until we started deep breathing exercises and I past out. I was given oxygen and felt good and so now I can get an entire deep breath. Is anyone else on oxygen? Last night my blood pressure was 80 over 65 I am not in a hospital and wonder if I should have taken further action? I was given salt water with the o2 and felt really awful for a few hours and now it as past, the aawful feeling does it sound like the neuro sarc is now in my lungs for the first time? I almost feel as if I need to leave the rehab and get back to my docs? Any suggestion? Anne

Here are some links for liver sarcoidosis.

http://www.medicinenet.com/sarcoidosis/article.htm

Liver sarc is very common, effecting 80% of us at some time. The beauty is that our livers actually have the ability to regenerate-- so if we do all we can to keep the toxicity down as low as possible-- then generally we minimize the problem. Fluids are essential-- and if you know you have kidney stones already-- as the liver and kidneys are our major detox organs-- watch your fats and sweets intake.

Fresh fruit, veges, and juicing is wonderful to help keep the liver happy!

Thank you for the info shauna. I live in Ringgold, which is basically a suburb of Chattanooga. I have been an inpatient and an outpatient there as well in my search for some answers. Have dealt with chronic clusters for a long time. But everything got strange several months ago as I began to have other problems such as double vision, nystagmus, drooping of my eyebrow and fatigue. I also cannot lie down flat as the pressure in my head becomes terrible. My ace level was the only blood test that came back abnormal and it was in the high 90. I had a chest xray and my doctor mentioned that he thinks it is neurosarc. I go back may 1Sent from my iPod

Hi Eddie from Georgia,

I am Shauna.  What part of Georgia do you live? I am in Stockbridge but I see a doctor at Emory.  I used to have terrible headaches but with treatment they have subsided.  I used to see a Neurologist there but he moved so now I see a Pulumanary doctor and he is very good with my Neuro and regular sarcoids.  Please let me know if you want more info.

Understand completely. In our house use to take care of all the bills & checkbook etc. Now it is me, because of the memory problems and the motor control. She goes to wrtie something and it is at times illegible. I had never realized just how bad it had gotten until she had written a check to one of the credit card companies and put it in the envelope to mail. I sent it out and got a phone call from them that they could not read the info on the check for the amount. mattSubject: (unknown)To: neurosarcoidosis Date: Sunday,

My memory is also bad. It scares me cuz I still am the one who handles the checkbook, bills, all the paperwork. Hubby is in denial of how bad it is. I've made some whoppers of mistakes in the checkbook, forgot to pay bills, etc. I have been trying to work ahead of things so when I go through bad spells I have enough done ahead of time to cover myself. As soon as the weather got colder the pain in my arms started up again and it gets so bad I can't think straight. Those pain creams, melted hot wax machine, etc. help a bit. But my thinking slows down when the pain is acting up so I prepare ahead of time the best I can but you can only do so much. I stock up on all the cold medicines, kleenex, cough drops in case one of the guys get sick. It's not like I can run to the store and get the stuff. I haven't driven a car in almost ten years. Who can drive when my hands go numb or are in tremendous pain. I pray for help and

sometimes the answer is to

just slow down, cut back or just lay still and rest. We just learn to cope...over time. S.

Life is short...live it to the fullest...to your last living breath.
