Hi everybody,

I have not been on this group for a year now. My son graduated from

his second DOC band when he was 15 months old. He wore 2 bands, each

for 4 months. The shape of his head drastically improved, but I now

have a question to see if anybody else has noticed anything like

this. My son has naturally curly hair, and it's about 3 inches long

now (we've never cut it). The side of his head that used to be

really prominent, and where his band was holding tight, has hair that

grows really coarse and frizzy, whereas the hair on the rest of his

head is wavy and silky. There is a marked difference between the

hair on the 2 sides on the back of his head. It continues to grow,

and even the new growth appears to be this way...frizzy and coarse.

I am concerned that maybe having the band on for so long damaged his

folicles there. For a long time when he was younger, he lost all of

his hair in that area because the band was holding tight and it all

rubbed off. Has anybody experienced anything like this. He is

almost 26 months old now, and I expected it to be growing normally by

now.

thank you,

Hi-

The texture of my son's hair wasn't effected, but the growth pattern

was. He has longish curly hair and there are days when I can look at

him and see the pattern of his DOCBand on his head (flatter in the

cap areas, fluffier in the open area). He's only been out his band

since September though, and he's due for another haircut, so I'm

hoping it will continue to improve (it was a lot flatter in the

beginning but he's getting his curl back).

I would suggest getting his hair cut though. There is a world of

difference once you get that first cut and cut off all the baby

hair. It grows back faster and thicker and looks so much healthier

(my daughter's hair took FOREVER to grow and I was hesitant to cut

it at all, but it looked so much better after and grows like a weed

now). I know it's tough thinking of cutting off all that hair, but I

get my son's hair cut really short (like a half inch long, with no

evidence of any curls) and it grows back really quick.

Hope that helps!
