Guest guest
Caroline I just checked into foods high in sulfur. Eggs are just one of these. Are you burping or experiencing flatulence or both? Foods high in sulfur are: whole cow's milk, cheese, eggs, meats, cruciferous vegetables (such as broccoli, cabbage) and sulfite-preserved foods such as dried fruits, wine. In other words you might just be consuming too many foods high in sulfur for your digestion to handle in its current state. Or eating something your body isn't digesting yet which causes fermentation. If you try some different food combinations, you might be able to eat an egg now and then. You can also try a digestive enzyme, or drink a glass of water with lemon juice before a meal. Hopefully it is just a phase, and as your gut ecology improves, this will disappear. I don't think the yeast are the culprits here, except as contributing to a disrupted gut ecology. Kim M. SCD 6 years > > So, I've been SCD since 1/7/10. I ate eggs for the first 2-3 weeks then all of a sudden I started to get really (I mean REALLY) bad gas - it smelled like rotten eggs sort of, sulphurous, and the smell would not dissipate easily (it really hung around). I suspected eggs b/c that's what it smelled like. > > I tested by going back to intro and doing really easy foods for a week or 2. Then I ate eggs at my boyfriend's last week (that is the only SCD-safe thing he feels comfortable making for me so far haha) and developed the gas again within 2 days. So i'm pretty sure it is the eggs, right? > > How come they didn't affect me like that for the first 2 weeks? > > Do you think it has something to do with candida? Like the bad bacteria started dying off and the candida surged? > > Help! I want to eat eggs without making people pass out!! > > Caroline > UC/Crohns since 1999 > Remicade since 6/2008 >
Guest guest
I am burping, too, but no more than normal so I think the issue is definitely the flatulence. Since the experiment where I started over from the intro, I haven't had any cruciferous veggies, but it is still happening. I make my yogurt from whole cows milk but I've had that since the beginning of SCD and the crazy gas didn't start until 2-3 weeks after beginning. But I have been eating grapes (I know, I know - they are more advanced) so maybe I should take a break from them, too. Darn - all my snack options are out the window! I haven't had any eggs since Monday now so I will give it a rest, and then try one (just one) after another week or so to see if I still get the same reaction. I've been doing the lemon juice/warm water every morning upon rising. If it keeps it up, I might look into the enzymes. Thanks for the info Kim!! Caroline > I just checked into foods high in sulfur.
