I'm on Differin too and it has been a miracle " drug " for me. I think

that's the one thing I was lucky with about with my recovery from this

surgery. I already had complexion problems before surgery and finally

got them sorted out... so by the time I had the surgery, I already had

my skin regulated and was in a good routine with the differin (and

another topical Rx product I use as well). I haven't really broken out

at all. My skin seemed a bit more oily than usual for the first couple

days and it was very dry a couple days after surgery- finally a

strange layer peeled off like a snake shedding the skin. Then I was

back to normal with no breakouts or bumps or anything. Thank goodness

for Differin! I love what it has done for my skin and therefore for my

own confidence about showing my face in public. Definitely seek out

the help of a dermatologist if your problems aren't improving/ going

away/ or are worsening. Sometimes things can really throw off your

skin & complexion, and then your body may have a hard time righting

itself again without help. A change in medication (for unrelated

problems) is what originally sent my complexion to hell!! Then, I

waited way too long before seeing my dermatologist and she has been

infinitely helpful. We don't go through this surgery to then feel

badly about our appearances because of naughty, uncooperative

complexion!!!! :) Just don't let the doctor throw you on antibiotics

instantly! My first dermatologist tried that route and it was horrible

and unhelpful. My second dermatologist put me on the differin and

another topical med that have made all the difference. And as an

aside, ProActive is not the wonder-product they would have you believe

it is!! It totally exacerbated my problems which made them that much

harder to eradicate. Unless you know someone with similar skin type as

yours that it's worked for, I wouldn't risk trying it. My skin type,

for context, is sensitive, dry and oily- and basically

IMPOSSIBLE!!! :)

Good luck to everyone,

Katja :)

I started seeing a dermatologist about 10 months before my surgery,

and she put me on Differin gel plus a toner with an antibiotic in it.

I agree, the differin gel is quite gentle. The toner has a bit of

acid in it, and what it does is a slow peel, so years of acne pockets

are actually fading away.

I was just happy to have the acne problems resolved as I'd had

problems all my life.

And I figured that since people often have acne problems post-op, I'd

jump the gun and get to see a dermatologist beforehand. Sometimes you

wait quite awhile to see these people.

Lordy, does it ever take a while to see them. Last time I tried, for

what I feared was a rapidly growing fungus, I was told that they

were booked three weeks, at least, in advance.

Of course, that doesn't compare to some oral and maxillofacial

surgeons... But then these fellows (the dermatologists) aren't

repairing jaws that got smashed up in unforeseen auto accidents,

either. And it seems unlikely to me that they're being awakened in

the middle of the night to tend to someone's emergency skin rash,

either... (Enlighten me, if I'm in error here.)
