Guest guest
Hi . I know your questions were directed to Kim, but I thought I would jump in as well. It is always best to get the earliest appointment possible. I think we usually had between 8:30 and 9:00 AM. He is very busy because he is soooo good. Also, because he is dedicated to helping clubfoot patients, he never turns anyone away. So it can be extemely busy there. Once I think I waited almost 2 hours. That appointment was mid day though. I found the earliest appointments were best with the least amount of waiting. Count on at least 2 hours total. The first visit will be long, maybe 3 hours, because they take a lot of pictures and xrays. He usually has a team of doctors he is training at all times. Sometimes it can be hectic. But, he will always be the one who makes the decisions and does the casting. There is another doctor there, Dr. Lamm. He is excellent as well. Dr. Lamm and Dr. Herzenberg work hand in hand many times. Because Dr. Herzenberg is so dedicated to his field, he is often traveling, out of the country, or training somewhere. In these cases, Dr. Lamm stepped in. I have/had no problems with him treating my daughter. I haven't met anyone who hasn't been happy with Dr. H yet. kelly_warde wrote: Kim, We won't be there this Friday because my son with clubfeet hasn't be born yet :-) But, we plan to start seeing Dr. Herzenberg in February when our little man arrives. We also plan to meet with the doctor before I deliver -- just to get an understanding of what to expect. Do you mind if I ask you a few questions? What has been your experience with Dr. Herzenberg? Do you see him every time or are there other doctors in his group that practice the Ponseti Method? How long do the appointments take? Do you typically have to wait very long to see him? Do you know how many children he is currently treating? Have you gone to him since your daughter was born? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi , I hope you don't mind if I respond to this also. We see Dr. Herzenberg and we have not yet been there for an appointment with HIM and had to see someone else. There are usually other doctors in the room who are trying to learn from him. Most of the time the appointments are on target but there do come days when you can wait for some time. I don't know the exact number of kids he is treating but I can tell there are ALOT. When we go there are at least 6-7 other clubfoot babies and that is just in our timeslot. Good Luck! Mommy to Christian (1-30-04) DBB- nights only and (12-17-98) Re: Dr. Herzenberg on Friday? Guest guest
Hi ~ Everything that has been said about Dr. Herzenberg is consistent with my experience. Actually, thanks to and several others on this group, we found Dr. H. To answer a couple of your questions, we did not start with Dr. H. Maddie was casted and had the tenotomy done by Dr. Sponseller at s Hopkins. A great doctor, but clubfeet is NOT his speciality. It was when we transitioned to the shoes... that we had problems. Acting on the advice that I received from this forum, I went for a second opinion from Dr. H. We have been with Dr. H ever since. He is wonderful with Maddie and is very informative! So much more than Dr. Sponseller. Since the switch, we have only ever seen Dr. Herzenberg. I have not seen Dr. Lamm in his practice, but Dr. H does usually have a couple of doctors with him during the treatments. I will absolutely second 's recommendation on the appointments. We always take as early as possible. I am in land, so it is easy for me to get in early. There is a physical therapist that works with Dr. H, , who is also great. She indicated that they are seeing upwards of 500 clubfoot babies. Clubfoot clinics are every Friday, but everyone is in different stages of treatment, so obviously everyone is not there at once. When you do not get an earlier appointment, you do tend to spend a couple of hours at the clinic. He is very busy, but it is worth the excellent treatment. If you are interested, I am sure that his secretary, Sheila, will send you a CD that was developed on clubfeet. You will be very happy with him. I am SO fortunate we found him. Maddie has been doing much better. We have been seeing him since mid-September. If you do not mind me asking, where are you located? Best of luck to you. If you have anymore questions, please ask!!!
