Guest guest
hi all, even if you love your surgeon, it is important to find a PCP that is comfortable with your surgery. my surgeon has long ago retired, but i've also moved 3 times in the last 13 years to different states. when i end up somewhere new and have to find a new PCP, i interview them. my requirement is that they have to either be up on the surgery or else willing to take direction from me about what i need. it's getting easier in the last 3 years. before that PCPs just looked at me like i had 2 heads or something. but, i made myself an expert on what i needed and became my own advocate. i give them a list of what labs i need every year, demand copies, tell them what meds i cannot be given, and manage my own destiny. i think it's important that you know how. the only time i didn't, i ended up really sick and being fed for 6 weeks with TPN through a tube in my chest before i was back to normal. no one else takes care of you like you do! peace, phyl Never quit. There is nothing less important than the score at half-time.
