About 6 weeks ago, we had scratch tests done for food

allergies. showed a 2 for tomatoes, so we

stopped using them. A couple weeks ago, we got his

blood allergy results back, and they didn't show any

allergy to tomatoes. I decided to feed him tomatoes

last night, the first time in about 6 months. I made

him rice pasta, with some ground pork and homemade

pasta sauce. By bedtime, his belly was distended and

he was grouchy. He was up crying in the night, and

he's been really violent and aggressive this morning.

I'm going to try the pasta again for lunch and see if

we get the same results. This was almost as bad as

the reactions we get when he has a wheat infraction.

Does this sound like a tomato allergy to anyone else?

We get this as well. I *think* tomatos are high in phenols, and are

technically a fruit. We get the same out of control behavior with

bananas.

We don't get this at all with bananas or apples, so

phenols never crossed my mind. You think it could

still be phenols since he doesn't react to apples and

bananas?

I would think you would definitely get a reaction with bananas if he

was going to have a phenol reaction.

Another thing about tomatoes is that they are highly acidic. Gives

my husband heartburn, and my children red bottoms. Plus, Ethan will

get a red reaction (not a rash, though) on his skin.

We removed tomatoes 3 weeks ago because Ethan is going towards a

fruit-free diet. I thought he was completely on a fruit free diet

until I read that all fleshy things coverings seeds are fruits

(cucumbers, etc) so I have a call out to the Ped. Gast.
