Guest guest
http://autismawakeninginia.bizland.com/autismawakeningdietinvervention /id10.html This is a link from the Autism Awakening site. I just found it and thought it explained phenol well, with a list of the major phenols. I hadn't really considered dairy a phenol. So there are two reasons it is problematic. . Guest guest
Just wanted to share our experience with 'hidden' phenols while we are on thsi topic. My son had a rash around his mouth with he kept licking. Didn't matter what I put on it, he kept licking it off. The rash lasted for 10 days and he was becoming increasingly agitated, and showing red ears and cheeks. Finally, my SIl gave me a tube of ointment that she said was really good, and I checked the label for menthol as the rash was at the stage where everything made it sting. Guess what the third ingredient was - Phenols!! I realised that I had been unwittingly smothering phenol laden creams around his mouth for him to lick off! That night I put steroid cream on once he was asleep and not licking. Within two days, with only this cream at night the rash cleared, and his mood/behaviour improved again. Next time I will check all the labels of the creams I use. marita
