BeeI don't know anything about the medicine, and I never had diabetes. I do only eat protein, small amounts of vegs and fruit. I have only had a teaspoon of mashed potatoes at Easter. One teaspoon of stuffing at Xmas. I am a year out and I don't really do carbs, if it's a big holiday a bit will do me. The more I stay away from them the easier it has gotten, in the beginning it's so hard. Hope your diabetes gets better. Take care. Hi Bee, I am only a week out from WLS and I have not taken my Metformin since last Monday. I don't seem to have any reactions. I hope that this helps somewhat. Hi B

Not yet it is still a wait and see what happens at my next blood test which is in a couple of months. I don't know if changing my exercise will help but I am going to try that. I am sure with the stress that I am going through right now it is not going to help the situation.

Hi Ramona sry for you also that it has reared back into your life....Did he put you on meds? I will prob do the blood test next tuesday... He said that the diabetes can return even though you lose the weight. I am again border line. It does run in my family so I would not be too surprised if I ended up eventually on meds again. It does happen I guess. Mine was after a 12 hour fast 119. Normally after 8 hours in the morning it is

between 100 and 90 but the longer I go without eating it starts to climb instead of drop which is why I asked the doctor what was going on. Ramona

I took the same dosage, no problem...was on I believe either 500 or 1000 mg 2x/day...I have been off the Met for 8 months now, b/c I thought it would make me miscarry. Actually , I don't know if you have PCOS or not...but my ob/gyn who is the head of the infertility group at Kaiser prescribed Metformin to help manage my excess insulin. Excess insulin can cause difficulty in getting pregnant...and can also cause miscarriage. So, if you stopped Metformin without doctor's orders because you are concerned about negative impacts on your pregnancy...you should check with your physician, particularly your ob/gyn...because, in fact, Metformin (in the right situation, depending upon your underlying reason for taking it) can help you maintain a pregnancy. I quit taking Metformin about two months before my surgery. My primary wanted me to take a rest, and my insulin seems to be good now. I am doing my lab work for my one year (which includes fasting tests) and hopefully they will also be able to determine my insulin level, too. I had hyperinsulinimia (my

blood sugar was fine, but my insulin was high...which is not uncommon with PCOS). Anyway, I meet with my ob/gyn next week (a follow up to a test that I'm a little worried about...has nothing to do with the surgery), and I'm going to ask her about whether Metformin is still relevent for me. Anyone know whether the surgery cures PCOS? I know it helps to manage it, because the more weight you gain (a frequent side effect of PCOS) the worse it becomes. It's like a vicious cycle! SO, thus, when you start losing weight..it's a good thing for all of your other symptomology. I don't know if the sugery " cures " PCOS exactly. It may " cure " PCOS

just like it " cures " diabetes. The American Diabetes Assn. calls WLS

the only cure for diabetes, but at one of my classes they told us

it's not actually a cure, since the underlying diabetes is still

there and can recurr if you gain the weight back or your body becomes

insulin-resistant again.

It sounds more to me as if it sends the condition into remission,

where it's effectively gone but you still keep monitoring it to make

sure there's no return.

I know it helps to manage it, because the more weight you gain (a frequent side effect of PCOS) the worse it becomes. It's like a vicious cycle! You are right...PCOS ( poly cystic ovarian syndrome) is never truly cured, but WLS does drive it into remission, similar to diabetesWanda wrote: What is PCOS I have no Idea what they are talking aboutCathy wrote: I don't know if the sugery "cures" PCOS exactly.
