Guest guest
Hi- I am scheduled for a consult with Dr. Ren on Oct. 31. Having never met this person I would love to hear from other people who have had surgery with her or have spoken with her directly. When I first joined this list months ago I was emailed about a surgery she supposedly botched up, so I am aware that at least one person wasn't happy with their surgery. But, I have read some really good things about Dr. Ren and trust that she will do as good a job with me as possible. I really want to hear about personal experiences though. Did you feel you got treated well and fairly? If you had problems, was she available to help? How is her bed side manner? What are her office staff like? Are they helpful? Did you run into insurance problems and if so were Dr. Ren and staff willing to help fight for insurance approval? Most importantly did she live up to the trust you placed in her? I value any input on this and eagerly await your replies. Take care and thank you, PS- What did the consultation cost? Did you have to pay out of pocket or did your insurance cover it? Guest guest
Dear , I had Lap BPD/DS surgery with Dr. Ren on April 26, 2001. She is not only a confident, skilled surgeon but also a wonderful person too. Her bedside manner is fantastic and she is very, very thorough, leaving nothing to chance. Her patients love her. She is a great listener. She came to personally check on me late into the 2nd night when I had some bloating in my abdomen. It ended up being my bladder that was not competely emptying since the catheter came out. The nurse felt that this was the problem but Dr. Ren came herself late into the night rather than rely on someone else. I was recatherized overnight, felt better and then the catheter was removed the next a.m. and all systems were go. Her nurse practioner, Gio is wonderful and he visits Dr. Ren's patients while in the hospital and made follow up calls once I got home to make sure everything was okay. Same for Barrie, Dr. Ren's nutritionist. NYU's nursing care was excellent and I had no need for my own aide or nurse. You can e-mail Dr. Ren anytime and she'll e-mail you right back. Same for phone calls. I had a question when I was home for 2 days and she called me back within 10 minutes and she was at an out of state conference. Your consult will never be rushed (she spent an hour with me after her nurse practioner spent an hour going over history, etc...) She truly cares for her patients and makes sure she answers all of your questions, etc... She wants to know all of her patients and is very concerned about aftercare and follow up. My surgery was done fully lap in under 3 hours (I had 2 previous c- sections and a moderate amount of adhesions that she had to deal with) My recovery was quick and my 1/4 " , 1/2 " and 3/4 " scars (1 scar is completely inside my belly button and not visible at all) are almost now invisible. I have Guardian HealthNet (formerly PHS) POS insurance and everything was handled through her office. I was approved within days. My consult fee was a total of $450, which also included my initial nutritional counseling and the nutritionist follow ups (you see the nutritionist usually every 3 months the first year plus phone contact as and if you need). I paid that (I was out of network with a $500 deductible) and submitted it to insurance for reimbursement. I was back to work (office) full time on the 11th day post op and I feel great and have had no problems whatsoever. When you meet Dr. Ren for yourself, you will feel very confident with her. She is very open and honest and you are never just another surgery in her eyes. Best of luck to you. Jane J. 230/170 (-60 lbs.)
