Guest guest
Christee, Thanks so much for passing along that link! I had never seen it. so interesting to see. p.s. Bri, yes, cutting off the casts by hand is what they did in Iowa for us. we soaked the casts in a sink in the cast room for a half hour or so, then they split the cast down the side with a cast knife, pulling the plaster away. > DUH, forgot to send the link...LOL > > http://www.ponseti.org.uk/video/index.htm >
Guest guest
Dr. Ponseti, he's so sensitive... he decided long ago he didn't like to hear babies cry when the saw was operating so he has parents soak the casts prior to coming in and then remove them by hand. Many docs don't do it this way though. Ours didn't and I was perfectly happy with it. I don't think it bothered her much if at all to deal with the saw. A few times she didn't even cry at all. Personally I couldn't have done the soaking, I would have had to get up at 4am to get it started and get to the docs by 8am with a cast ready to be peeled off. But it's a matter of personal preference and the docs do it both ways with equal success. It is a good video! I hadn't seen it before but it made me want to cry tonight when I did view it. Every parent should see it!! Kori At 09:08 PM 1/2/2006, you wrote: > I want to thank you for that video. I found it very interesting. > Infact I saved it. lol. Guest guest
Noah had I think 2 taken off by saw. That was 2 more than both of us could handle including grandma she was there too. After we switched doctors he did it so we could take the cast off at home. That was way better and I even got to spend qieut time with him in the tub!!! Christee wrote: Our 1st Dr. removed Lilee's by saw. When we went to see Dr. Ponseti, he soaks them off. I thinks its just a matter of patience on the Dr. if they want to wait 20min to get it off,or 3minutes. Dr. Ponseti hates to see babies cry, and sometimes the saw sound can scare them, so he prefers the soaking. Guest guest
I am not an emotional sort ... I did ok right up until the little boy with atypical feet. Every case I hear about, every one I see ... I wish they would all just go away, and as strange as this sounds, that they could just have plain old clubfeet, not particularly normal feet, just normal clubfeet. angel > > DUH, forgot to send the link...LOL > > http://www.ponseti.org.uk/video/index.htm > > > --------------------------------- > Yahoo! Guest guest
Me too Angel! The part on A-Typical, the little boy running, parents feeling guilty, and where the mother was saying people would look at her like she had hurt her child cause they had a cast on! All those got me! Guest guest
Our doctor had us soak the cast at home and bring her in with it wet and then they would remove it in the office. It was a challenge especially since we live an hour away from the hospital but when Kelsey had her Ponseti method casts, she was almost a year old and the vacuum cleaner would send her into hysterics, I cannot imagine the saw. Our first doctor used it once when she was an infant. Dr. Von Stein will not use the saw however on clubfoot casts. When I asked her about it, she told me that in order to get the plaster to mold correctly to the feet, they did not use much padding underneath and she felt it was not safe to use the saw because of that. So, we would get up early, put her in the tub, wrap her leg in a wet cloth diapers and a garbage bag and head to Cincinnati. The biggest downside was the smell of vinegar in the car. Guest guest
I'm sure this is the video that was created by STEPs (a lower limb deformity charity in the UK) if you Log onto their website www.steps.co.uk you can order or download the video. So if you want to show it to others you can. I hope she doesn't mind me saying this but I'm also sure that Stella who posts on here from the UK has a lot to do with this video as it's her company who gave permission for it to be used on the Ponseti Users group website so she might be able to provide more details for anyone who would like them number23 wrote: I want to say THANKS for sending that video - I wish every parent with a new cf baby could watch that, how awesome. s. Guest guest
What do you think I'm doing wrong? It keeps saying " internal error " when I try to download it. Thanks, Holly > > DUH, forgot to send the link...LOL > > > > http://www.ponseti.org.uk/video/index.htm > > > > > >--------------------------------- > >Yahoo! DSL Something to write home about. Guest guest
oh, I dunno... some kind of internal error likely... heheh... ok... sorry, had to do that! Do you have the latest version of microsoft media player installed? If not, go to microsoft downloads (updates actually...) and download the media player 10. Then try again. If that doesn't work, I can send a copy to you via yousendit.com which will handle files up to 1gb in size. LMK and I'll upload it for you. I have the iPod version ready if you use Apple (Quicktime) player too already at yousendit and can send you a copy of that download. Each yousendit.com file is good for 15 downloads before it has to be re-uploaded and sent again. LMK Kori At 06:11 PM 1/3/2006, you wrote: >What do you think I'm doing wrong?
