Lisbeth.....

Got any idea how to start ?? Tell me how you would like the protein drinks

to taste......

You know, I would love to do this BUT......if I were to make it financially

what I would like to do is set up a foundation where some monies would go to

pay for surgeries for those who either can not afford insurance or to go to

Spain........I would LOVE to be able to do that....a way to give back a bit

of the wonderful life I now live! But it would be done without alot of

overhead where so much of the money gets spent on the overhead instead of

benefiting the patient......

Think its doable??

Hugs, Judie

Judie, If you were a man I'd marry you! I work with non-profit organizations

and not to long ago someone approached me about starting up a non-profit and a

foundation. So as far as I am concerned your heart is in the right place. I dont

know where you are at but setting up an orgainization with your specifications

shouldnt be to hard.

The hard part is making the damn protein drink!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think there

should be two protein types 1) powdered flavor less and I mean completely

without flavor that you can add to any drink so like that you get your protein

in and not gag and wretch with the protein after taste. (I am almost convinced

that when I get my blood work done my iron is going to be a mess but I cant

handle another protein drink witout tossing my cookies). The 2nd) protein type

should be a drink so its portable and one should be fruit based and one maybe

creamy but lord it just has to taste good. The chocolate protein drinks taste

like (I cant use the words in polite conversation) and the the other ones taste

BAD.

Judie let me know when you live and maybe we can start to work on your dream. I

have wanted to do something like this as well, but I am in a serious miserable

funk right now and just do not like life at the moment.

Fine by me-- but that pretty much is all the good ideas if have! Though

I did discover a site where you can custom order any kind of protein

supplement made how you want it:

www.Protienfactory.com it is run by body builder types, and I was too

chicken to pose the question about what they would recommend for our

situations-- can't imagine body builders would deal easily with the

notion of rearranging the insides just to loose weight. I was thinking

that soy protein might be good as a base-- but as to taste and

consistency-- I dunno.

But, Hey, I am still pre op and who knows what I will want then....

1. a sampler pack of all the existent protein supplements so each post op

doesn't have to spend a fortune on large quantities just to give the

stuff a try, and find out they hate it-- the company would buy in bulk

and repackage, hang a price tag on it-- et voila-- all profit can go into

your foundation for whatever

2. If the cf people are gonna cut us off, then you could make a deal with

the manufacturer to package the ADEKs for us DS folks., or you could put

together sample packets of the various vitamins folks are using-- say a

week of each, so we could see what we are okay with.

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know!

Nan,

Well I have tried several soy products and lets just say that I am going to have

cultivate a " taste " for it. I think you have some great ideas. I believe people

have a limitless amount that they can contribute

With all the people shelling out thousands of dollars in copays (I'll be

lucky if I pay $3,000 for this surgery), $12k for Dr. Rabkin or $11k for Dr.

Baltasar or even more money for self-pay, I find it hard to believe that

people wouldn't be lining up for a kit that had everything you need for your

first post-op month plus a variety of protein samples. Think of all the

money people (and probably me, when it's my time) waste on protein

drinks/powders/bars that they *hate* and wind up throwing away! :)

Maybe I'm out of touch, though. :)

Judie,

If the " first month pack " were an option, with a separate " protein

samples pack " , its might be a very economical project. The problem

would be having enough preorders to make it worthwhile to buy

supplements in bulk.. I do think it could be done fairly cheaply, but

we'd have to have someone willing to sell us the chewable multivites,

calcium, & such wholesale.. possibly even the proteins.. it'd be a big

project, but its doable. Just a thought..

I agree. I'm paying a $4500 fee payment for my

surgery and last week spent $28 to get a bunch of

protein bars and drinks of which I could only tolerate

How about putting together a great book. It could start with explaining

the DS surgery>>>>>>

great idea, Joann.....but has to be tailored to your own doc and hospital as

all of them are different in how they do things and approach things....but

its a great idea and worth including!
