--My son was diagnosed with PDD and also has a rare seizure disorder

(ESES) that occurs during sleep. The first seizure (or at least the

1st one that I'm aware of), however, occurred during wake hours. A

number of tests were run. The CT scan, bloodwork, and MRI were all

normal; however, the EEG was abnormal, and in his doctor's words " in

a very remarkable way " : brain waves were normal during wake hours,

abnormal during sleep. He diagnosed my son with ESES, a rare seizure

disorder. He says that there are only 140 documented cases world-

wide! Any way, my son fits the profile of other children with ESES:

speech delays, cognitive and fine motor difficulties: all behaviors

also consistent with autistic spectrum disorders. I would recommend

that your friend see that her child has an EEG if this has not

already been done.

I started my son on the GFCF diet in hopes that it will be helpful

not only for the autistic behaviors, but also the seizure activity.

He has been GFCF for about a month. Unfortunately, I haven't been

able to tell a difference, but will continue on with this

intervention....
