Guest guest
, I am totally with you on this question. Someone else mentioned a doctor (I think it was a doctor) somewhere in New Zealand (?) that did some research/studies and determined that SIDS was caused by the flame retardants found in baby's mattresses. He stated that when babies sleep on their bellies, their noses are so close to the mattress and the heat from their breath stirs up the toxins in the mattress. He also came up with a mattress cover that prevented these toxins from coming through. I had heard this before, but I am still not sure what to believe. Anyway, I would LOVE to put my little guy on his tummy, but I am sooo scared to do it. He is only three months old. I know a few people who do not believe in this whole SIDS thing (they think there are other causes for the death of these infants). They placed their children on their bellies from the time they were a month old and obviously never had a problem. I would hate to take that chance and have something happen. I would always blame myself it something happened. And I really don't know what age is appropriate to place a child on his tummy. There have been cases of SIDS in children that are 18 months old. So it's really a crappy gamble. lotsolove4my2babes wrote: I have read about many parents utilizing many different things to get baby comfy(and I am willing to try any and all at this point), but how do u all get past the SIDS concerns about the pillows, towel/blanket props, belly sleeping, etc? Are u ever afraid of them getting stuck bc of the weight of the bar? Any ideas/hints on how to make props safer or not worry so much? Thanks. Guest guest
Is Issac able to hold himself up on his arms, i.e. like girly push ups, has he been able roll over in the bar? If he is then I would probably feel pretty comfortable letting him sleep on his tummy. I think I felt confident in my kids ability to sleep on their tummies early on. As far as pillows and such, I would use something kind of firm - like a foam wedge. One time Sammy did get his shoe stuck in the bars of his crib and had rolled over - poor little guy was stuck in some crazy position when I got in there to check on him. > > I have read about many parents utilizing many different things to get > baby comfy(and I am willing to try any and all at this point), but how > do u all get past the SIDS concerns about the pillows, towel/blanket > props, belly sleeping, etc? > > > Are u ever afraid of them getting stuck bc of the weight of the bar? > > Any ideas/hints on how to make props safer or not worry so much? > > Thanks. > >
