Guest guest
Hello, I have posted Adelyn's photo study pictures from her first consult at CT. My husband and I are in the process of deciding how much longer to continue w/ repo and if/when to start the banding process. She has brachy w/ slight right side plagio, w/ mild left tort. We have been doing repo for the past 2.5 weeks and have noticed a difference already w/ the back left side rounding out more. Ear Asym 5mm Cranial Vault 8mm Cephalic Ratio 94% Thank you for your help and comments! Amy Adelyn--4.5mo
Guest guest
Hi Amy- Adelyn is so cute! I do see the extra width in the back and also extra height/slope on top (from front to back, typical of brachy). I think she's a great candidate for a band now, I think it would help to hold that height in place and really get the bottom to round out. At the same time, she's still young and you COULD continue repo a little longer (I wouldn't go past 6 months old though). I guess it just depends on your insurance/finances/circumstances. If you really want to avoid banding all together, and are seeing results with repo, you can go a little longer and set a deadline to re-evaluate. If getting a band wouldn't be a financial hardship (or your gut tells you you'll end up doing it anyway), why not just go for it now? Get it over with and save yourself the stress of constant repo. Plus, I'm not sure where you live, but another benefit of starting now is the possibility of avoiding having to have her wear it in the heat of summer. It's not impossible to bear (my son wore his ALL summer), but it might be nice to have her in and out of it before the heat really kicks in (July and August are stifling here in NC). Not sure if any of that helped, but just my thoughts. Good luck! Jake-2.5 (DOCBand Grad 9/08) Jordan-5 > > Hello, > I have posted Adelyn's photo study pictures from her first consult at CT. Guest guest
Adelyn's head shape looks somewhat similar to my son's, although I think degree of plagio is much milder in your case. We also have a forehead bossing. So we tried repositioning for ~2 month and had no success. The thing is that tort makes it nearly impossible to reposition -- whatever we did our baby almost ended up on his flat side in the night. Towards the end I woke up every hour or so to reposition his head, but he stayed in that position maybe for 10 min and after that he turned his head to his favorite side. So here is the first reason to get a helmet -- to prevent plagio from getting worse. And I found out yesterday that our ortho gave this as one of the reason for banding in the medical necessity to our insurance company (we are fully covered). The other thing is that it seems that Adelyn has brachy -- so with the helmet you would address this issue too and also again prevent it from getting more severe. The other thing to consider. Forehead bossing and ears are the last to correct in a BANDED baby (in some cases band doesn't correct it). So I would say that with repositioning you have even less chances for optimal correction. And my last thought is the age factor. If you start before 6 month you would probably achieve best results in a shorter time span. The other thing is it would take time to get the helmet and get it properly fitted. It took us 2 weeks to get the helmet and ~2weeks to get optimal fitting. So let say if you decide to get the helmet at 6 month, you would be starting actual treatment close to 7 month. Guest guest
Hi Amy, My son just received his band on Thursday and I had been second guessing myself on whether it was the right decision right up to reading Zhyldyz's message to you. Our repo wasn't working either because Luke would always find his way back to his favorite flat spot and in the long run, I think it would have made his brachy even more severe than it is (97.5%, 4.5 CI, 6.6mm plagio). However, starting at 5 months, we are pretty optimistic that it will improve in a short time. That being said, Luke didn't have any forehead bossing or tort, so I would think it would be even more pressing for you to get Adelyn banded. We saw an improvement in Luke's brachy, but in my gut, I knew it would never look " normal " without getting banded. In the end, I think it is truly your decision and what you think is right. All my friends and family have asked why we are doing it and made me feel insecure about how I felt about my son's head. However, in the end we went with trusting our feelings. Good Luck. > > Adelyn's head shape looks somewhat similar to my son's, although I think degree of plagio is much milder in your case. We also have a forehead bossing.
