Guest guest
Thanks so much for your reply. I hope we are moving in that direction, especially since Connor is back to his old self after a 3 week reaction to an infraction. We really had to see a setback to take the next step, but Jim's not there for himself yet. My husband is well meaning and now totally supports the diet for Connor, but sometimes doesn't realize consequences of his actions (He ate flour dusty pizza over our little gfcf area at a birthday party today-luckily I was well rested and delt with this in a calm manner and just threw away our now contaminated gfcf pretend pizza without creating a scene at the party. I never realized how dusty real pizza is!) I guess he's not dealing with it 24/7 so it's not an issue. Meanwhile (grit teeth), any hints out there on how to set up systems to avoid mishaps? Thanks, Helene
Guest guest
Hi Helene, To avoid the possibility I have my house COMPLETLY GFCF. Company eats GFCF meals when they come over and GFCF desserts. When I want to eat " the norm " I do it while LJ is at school and I eat out. LJ has been GFCF for 17 months and doing great with no infractions at all, and I won't risk it. BTW though I am a single mom so that may make it easier as I don't have a husband wanting his pizza!!!!! Guest guest
Helene, I was so worried I was going to be in your boat with my dh. He is the world's pickiest, critical eater ever!!! I was shocked when he assumed we would all go gfcf. I didn't really have to persuade him. It would be tons more work to keep gfcf and non gfcf, I would imagine. I think you are doing great to keep separate appliances, etc... Maybe you could bake some good gfcf treats and give them to him and not tell him. Then he would see that they were good enough to eat on a regular basis. Actually, I think my dh was completely happy with the diet idea once he learned he could still have his french fries in the fry daddy, his MEAT, and potatoes. Fortunately he isn't a gourmet eater. Meat and potatoes are easy to do gfcf. Sometimes after the kids are in bed we will order out Mexican Food or Pizza!!! Or we will microwave that butter popcorn-and then run the dishes and microwave tray through the dishwasher. :-) So, if your dh likes meat and potatoes, you could do gfcf without him realizing it for the most part. Maybe that's stretching it, but I feel for you. Janelle

When I want to eat > " the norm " I do it while LJ is at school and I eat out. That is how we do it, too, although I have a husband who, at first, complained about no good breads in the house, etc. After many months on the diet, though, and our sons' very clear meltdowns when they ate gluten or casein, my husband told me to keep " that poison " out of our house. We only very rarely even eat pizza now, as he didn't like pizza unless it had at least goat cheese on it (although we do sometimes, even now, have a little goat cheese in the house). My husband eats out much more than the rest of us so can't really tell if he benefits from the diet, but I do see reactions when I go off diet. So the plus may be, that other family members might benefit from the whole house going gfcf. Lorilyn
Guest guest
Lorilyn, Just curious about what reactions you are experiencing on this diet. My dh and I have not had regular bathroom schedules since we started (I don't know how to put it nicer)and I wonder why this is? We've been gfcf for 2 mos. Actually my dh and I are not gfcf as we eat out. Our entire house is gfcf, though. Janelle
