He injected some steroids. That hurt for a few days, but it took the pain away. He thought that I might have to have another treatment in several months, but I did not need one. BUT . . . here's the other shoe: he suggested that I strengthen the quadriceps muscles above my knees by pedaling on a bicycle. So, I got a semi-recumbent exercise bike (which allows me to pedal sitting down with my back supported) and have been using it for two years now.
