Guest guest
, Welcome to the group. You mentioned that your local support group is a little silly. I hope you don't mind if we get a little silly in between the serious stuff. I am a little confused about your weight loss. Did you loose 170 lbs this last year or 15 lbs? The 170 lbs sounds great. 15 lbs in a year sounds a little scary. As far as missing the window of opportunity, you haven't. The weight loss may get harder now. I have found since about a year out is that I have to pay more attention. I have to be careful of the food I eat and make sure I get exercise. Hope you enjoy the group. Did you only have your lap RnY this past February -- meaning, you are not quite six months out and are posting to the Graduate list? Guest guest
Jill, Welcome to the group and congratulations on your weight loss. Actually your job sounds very interesting. When I was going to school for my social work degree, I worked at a domestic violence shelter. It is amazing how many women and children had come through that were sexually abused/assaulted. Although I loved the job, my heart almost always leans toward the Developmentally Delayed. Some how I can deal with little kids in big people's bodies better then I can with little kids. Don't figure. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas SRVG 7/16/01 Dr. Ritter/Dr. Bryce 479/335/??? On Mon, 07 Jul 2003 16:50:03 -0000 " jillcovey " writes: > Hi all!! I am a new member to the graduates group. Guest guest
You've been peeking at my story ! Many of us can't lose for anything. It takes the restrictive pouch...ALONG with the bypass....so teensy amounts of food...with even teensier amounts being absorbed. There was no WAY I could lose even a pound before surgery. I once starved myself for an entire month...mainly cuz I could NOT eat....due to emotional reasons...and I didn't gain...but couldn't lose an ounce...and my hair began falling out....try to get a doc to believe you...and just add to your frustration. So happy for this surgery! (In my case, the genes were a factor...have pictures all the way back to my GGRandmother...and she, too, was MO, along with my grandmother and mother. I had a 300 lbs great grandfather on the other side of the family too...so odds were definitely stacked against me. Regards~ Jacque > If anyone deserved to succeed, I sure did. Guest guest
I was normal weight as a youngster, but very " chubby " as a baby. As a baby in the 1950's I was considered healthy, because I had chubby little cheeks and chubby little knees. I was also taller then most kids my age. It wasn't until I was in my 20's and put on birth control that things started getting screwed up. I gained, I lost, I gained more, I lost, I gained even more. Well, you all know the story. I was never molested as a child. Maybe slightly spoiled as an only child....But was very shy as a child. Don't know if this has anything to do with my obesity. Go figure. If we knew...I would never have gotten to 320 pounds. Debbie in Gig Harbor (170cm medial) ladybostons@... http://www.cafeshops.com/copsstore WHO is now down to 204!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Actually, not all sexually abused children are obese. I suspect it is a combination of things from low self esteem to being an easy prey (smaller, less able to defend themselves, etc.) Then there is always those sick minded people who do it to begin with. Guest guest
Hi Ellen, You've found a family of fellow sarcoidians-- and many of us have systemic (multi-system) sarcoidosis-- so you are more than welcome here. Liver sarc is a fairly common issue-- and many of the immunosuppressants can help to get it under control. One of the BEST ways to help your liver detox is with Milk Thistle capsules. It is a natural liver cleanser-- and even with all the drugs we're on-- can really help get the Liver Function back within normal ranges. I swear by LivaTonic-- it has the MT, the psyllium, and one other ingredient. It was developed by a M.D. I learned of it from my chiropractor-- and my liver enzymes that had gone through the roof are now in the normal range--as long as I really watch and make sure I don't get dehydrated. Hydration is another key issue-- as we have to keep our liver and kidneys functioning as well as possible. No caffeine, no alcholol, or sodas. Switch to decaf teas, (you can even get Milk Thistle tea) add a bag to your favorite herbal tea-- it is virtually tasteless- so you can still enjoy a good Cinnamon or Lemon tea. Have you had a liver biopsy that showed sarc? Do you have any lung issues, or arthritis stuff also? Let us know-- and we'll do all we can to help you learn about this disease, and how we manage to keep going inspite of it. Again, welcome to the family-- we sure wish no one needed us-- but we're here-- and on this journey together. Guest guest
Hi Jim, If you look into the Message ARCHIVES you can search by Milk Thistle and you'll find alot of posts on how it detoxes the liver. It is so very effective, and allows you to continue with your normal meds without doing longterm damage to the liver. Generally when the enyzmes go up--- it's time to get more fluids down. This will help balance the concentrations of toxins-- and flush the icky (I know, another medical term) stuff out. Take care, Tracie NS Co-owner/moderator To: Neurosarcoidosis Sent: Friday, January 2, 2009 9:35:01 AMSubject: Re: new member Hi Ellen, I've been ok for a long time but have some problems with my liver. Guest guest
Hi "new member", Welcome to our "home" here online. Yes, we ARE a family here and we are glad you found us but sorry it was because of NS! We have over 550 members so you feel free to ask questions and someone will be getting back to you. We have several moderators and two owners, but please remember that we are ALL sick here so it might take a day or so for an answer to appear. We have lots of knowledgeable people here and many who have fought this disease for several years. We also have very good archives and a File that lists a lot of info. As for the steroids, yeah........they do have some bad side effects, but they do help---- especially at first. However, some Doctors today still feel that is the only treatment and that is not so....there are several treatments, but no cure, as of yet. Everyone is different and this Sarc Monster attacks everyone differently, it seems. Again, welcome, and please feel free to ask questions and browse our site.........much info here. And........please give us a name to address you with....:-) Hugs, Darlene NS Co-Owner/Moderator New Member Greetings:I am a new member and newly diagnosed(60 days ago).
