Guest guest
I will post some pics of her toes on the CFPics group. I hope I have some which show the positioning of her toes. It is hard to capture it since her feet are so tiny. Her feet are not my concern at this point, as they have responded well to casting...it is the toes which bother me, both for aesthetic reasons (she is a girl and will want to wear sandals someday!) and functional ones. I am totally convinced that the abnormalities of her toes caused the Markells to not work for her and give her the pressure sore. Carol Re: DBB alternatives? The PM's have their own bar, which is actually quite light. They don't work with any of the other bars available. Personally I don't think it's the bar that's heavy, the Markells are heavier than the PM's, the bar is fairly light. It's all that hardware on the sole plates methinks. At any rate, you don't have to worry about the bar because your new FAB will come with it's own. Interestingly enough very few Orthotists know the first thing about fitting the Markell shoes or have any inkling of the proper instructions to give parents. This is why the FAB tips was prepared, most of the info in there parents aren't ever told. It is also why so many sores and toleration issues are reported, many parents and orthotists give up after their meager resources for making the shoes work are exhausted. There's not a lot of help out there from the people who should know these things for these shoes. They aren't actually bad shoes, many of our children have worn them just happily. If you have out of the shoes because of the sore, you should ABSOLUTELY cut a hole in them so the sore isn't being pressed upon and put them back on. Her being out of them waiting the 2-3w (at least 2w, is extremely busy trying to make as many of these as he can so it does take a while to get the PM's) will put her at very increased risk for relapse. If so, even the PM's won't work well for her and she'll have to be re-casted and start all over again. So get a knife, chop up the shoes where her sore is (heel area right? perfectly ok to chop them there, lots of parents have done it with remarkable success. Baby is happy immediately. LMK if you need assistance with this. It really can work and will save you from worrying about relapse while her new shoes are made. Guest guest
My son's pinky toes curl under too, our doctor said the medical name for them are " curly " toes. I have the same thing on both feet so I wasn't worried about it (I still play soccer and I'm in my 30s). But as a teenager I never wore open toe sandals because I was embarassed, so I understand wanting to have your little girl's toes fixed. I'm curious about correcting the toes. If I can find the CFPics group I will look for the pictures. Can someone provide a link to the CFPics group, I never heard of it before. Guest guest
Just getting time to answer this...tough with four kids, including a newborn who wants to be held constantly! LOL We found out today that insurance will cover the cost of the Markell's...just have to wait and bug them about it for a while, I think. It should have been covered initially...you know how that goes. I will work on getting insurance to cover the 's, too. We changed insurance companies on January 1 so it will be easier to get them to cover the s because we won't have to justify why she needed a new pair of shoes right after getting her Markell's. I can't put her back in them, though...too hard on both of us. She will be recasted next Monday while we wait for the shoes. If she has lost a bit of correction, that should fix it. Her feet still look good to me, though, so anything lost has been minimal...and we have a great orthopedist who will make sure they are right before going into the shoes. Talked to Jean today and she sent out the impression kit so I am actually excited about receiving it and getting new shoes soon! Thanks for all your help...and the help of everyone here. I can't always answer emails as quickly or in as much detail as I would like, but I appreciate the support so much. I feel that we are on the right road with the new shoes and hoping to see Dr. Ponseti. God is working out 's miracle...it is just happening a bit slower than I would like. Guest guest
That actually makes me feel better about going for number 2 at 37! Re: Re: DBB alternatives? I keep hoping my dh will get that done before this baby gets born...like do it while I'm sick of being preggers instead of after it's born and I get the urge for another! haha Good luck with your trip though. s. Ours typically tells us they'll cover something and then they don't, and I end up having to call and call and call to get things sorted out. Pain in the $%^%!!! Anyway, I hope this new company is easier to deal with, and if not, well you have experience from the other, right? I just got the impression kit for the s and was so excited... I almost considered waking up from his nap to do the impression so I could send it back!! How silly is that?!? I can't wait to get the brace back and know for sure that his little feet are maintaining as they should! I'm glad to hear that you'll be back into a healing cast, and that visually the feet still look good. I hope no correction has been lost during this time!! Where do you live? Forgive me if you posted that in the past... I can't keep up! I certainly hope it's not too far from Dr P and that you'll be able to see him soon! Guest guest
I just had baby number four at the ripe old age of almost 39. It was not easy physically but I have no regrets.
