Guest guest
, Where do I start? Okay, we went to see Dr.P in December 2004. We decided to contact him after 2 doctors had failed to correct our daughters feet. I had read soo much about the problems after surgery is done and did not want that for my daughter. It took lots of planning and fighting with our insurance but we finally got to go. What we did was contact Dr.P via email, sent him pictures, and he was the one who told us when to come down. We drove from Tx and it was going to be during the holidays, plus I had my son in school, so that is why we went through him and Joyce. We actually got our state Medicaid to pay for the visits but I also checked into the price it would be just in case our insurance was denied. I don't have the guys name that I talked to right now, but if you need it I can find it for you, his name and number that is. He was so helpful into getting prices per treatment, casting prices, tenotomy price, etc. He also told me that if the insurance did not pay I would have to come up with 60% of the fees. I did all this research couple of weeks before just so I would not have any " surprises " . We also put our name on the waiting list at the Mcdonald House and actually made a reservation at the Red Roof Inn just in case there was no room at the RMH. I know it all seems overwellming right now, but it will come together. Just takes planning. I am sooooo glad we went. I will never ever regret taking her to him. Now she is a VERY VERY active 2 year old with perfect little chubby feet! and BL CF 12/16/03 jayroport wrote: Thank you to " jennyandkelly " for such prompt responses and great information. It's really got me thinking that we probably should go to Iowa. I want the best for my son. If someone's gonna tell me he definitely needs surgery, I want the best Ponseti people telling me. I'm thinking it also would be worth every penny to fly there and have them tell me he's doing fine (wouldn't that be a miracle!) too. Those of you who went to Iowa, how did you begin to research getting there, insurance questions, cost of treatment, etc. Did you just call up and say, " Hi, I want to bring my son/daughter in to see you. " ? Did you call the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, or did you call/email Dr. Ponseti himself? I've spoken with my husband and we're seriously considering at trip. Oh boy!...any help would be so appreciated. and (3/30/04 - " stubborn " RCF)
Guest guest
- Actually I basically did the " Hi, I want to bring my son/daughter in to see you. " ? After going through what we did here (surgery, and still not corrected) I took the advice of everyone on here and called Dr. Ponseti's office. I spoke to him personally on the phone and he said to bring him in. It was an amazing conversation and he sounded like he cared about Lucas so much that I ended up crying. Many others have emailed him with the same results. Dr. Ponseti cares about every single clubfoot baby. If your little one isn't getting the proper treatment, then he wants to help. As for insurance, call them to make sure they cover him as a provider. If they don't ask what your options are. You can also ask what your options are at Dr. Ponseti's office- they're extremely helpful! Personally for us, we decided we were going no matter what it cost- we wanted the best for him. I'm glad you are looking into this. He also has docs that are certified by him, and he may be able to recommend someone closer to you if you can't make it to Iowa. There was a post a while back with a ton of info on flights- Christee (I believe) posted that. As for emailing, I'm pretty sure he likes for you to email pics of the feet. I'm not sure what exactly he wants to see since I didn't go that route, but hopefully someone will chime in and let you know! Good luck with this and your son! Guest guest
I too looked Dr. P up on the internet, and spoke with him directly within 24hrs. HE IS GODS COMPANION! You will never meet a man as loving and wonderful as him! Not even your own (not directed at anyone personally, just making a statement) husband...lol... Dr. P did all our care for FREE! He even paid for our stay at the RMH! My daughter would of had to have extensive surgery with any local ortho, but Dr. P did it with casting, no surgery! TAKE YOUR CHILD TO HIM! You will NEVER regret it! Guest guest
When we heard the doctors in Utah felt she was an amputation case it honestly didn't shock me. We had been told that was worst case scenario before we ever brought her home from China and we only had two sentences about her condition prior to traveling over there so we really didn't have much to go on. This statement however, just reconfirmed to me that my gut instinct was right to go elsewhere. By that point, I had already e-mailed 20 Ponseti doctors in the country about and only 3 of them had experience with older children, so I began talking to those 3 doctors and we decided we would go out to St. Louis to see Dr. Dobbs. He was absolutely wonderful and always called me right back to answer my questions. So on a whim I decided I'd look up Dr. Ponseti's number and call him not really knowing anything about the man or where he was located. When I was connected right to him I was just amazed. As you know the rest is history. Dr. Ponseti totally corrected our little girl so she has beautiful, pain free, straight feet that she loves today. We are forever grateful to him and Dr. Morcuende. They truly created a miracle for us. Take care! Joyce > > > > Thank you to " jennyandkelly " for such prompt responses and great > > information. Guest guest
It is a miracle. Have you taken her bck to see the original " amputee " doctor so perhaps he'd be inspired? s.
