Guest guest
You can try propping his legs up, and try to swaddle him tightly so his legs don't move at all and then he might not notice the casts so much. s. Re: 1st Casting Marcus is still trying to adjust to the cast. He has been crying pretty much all morning. I broke down and gave him a pacifier to help soothe him. I can tell when he gets upset cause he just starts sucking on it harder until he can't stand the discomfort and then he starts crying like there's no tomorrow. > > I am glad the doctor was good, and gave you some good info. Guest guest
Well, Marcus had his first casting appointment yesterday. Dr. was wonderful. He took the time to explain the entire treatment plan. He follows the Ponseti method 100%. And the good news is that he said he was optimistic about Marcus's foot. He said in his opinion (based on the flexibility of the foot) he wouldn't classify it on the very severe end of the spectrum. He said it was more in the middle of the typical clubfoot and the severe. So that was reassuring. The casting went well. Marcus did cry a little during the process. However, the rest of the evening and night he kept having short screeching bursts. It was so upsetting for me because I kept thinking he may be in pain. I've never had a cast so I don't know the feeling. My husband was more optimistic and said the problem was more that he couldn't move his leg. I'm sure he's right, but I couldn't help but associate the crying with pain. All in all, it went well. Hopefully Marcus will adjust quickly to the cast being on his leg. Our next appointment will be on Monday (because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the schedule is a little off). Guest guest
Is he crying in pain/discomfort or just frustration? Is he " fighting " the cast (kicking legs, waving arms) or just laying there inconsolable?? He really should not be in pain - some discomfort is possible, but pain no. angel > > > > I am glad the doctor was good, and gave you some good info. Guest guest
I don't think he's in pain. He does have periods when he's quiet and then he just starts crying all of a sudden. That's what make me think it's just when he tries bto move and realizes something is holding him back. His toes are nice an pink and I inspected the whole cast to make sure the ends weren't pinching him anywhere. I hope he adjusts soon. > > > > > > I am glad the doctor was good, and gave you some good info. It > > took Isabella > > > about a day & a half to adjust to her new casts. Guest guest
Is he unilateral? My son was bilateral so I think the casting phase was easier on him since he couldn't really move either leg and they were identical in weight, etc. My son loved his bouncer-a rolled blanket may help as it can take the added weight off his hips. It sounds like frustration to me! You can always see about baby tylenol too-check with your ped on dosage and if it would be ok to give. take care, kathleen > > > > > > > > I am glad the doctor was good, and gave you some good info. Guest guest
Yes, he's unilateral - just the left foot. I've been putting rolled up blankets under his leg but it hasn't really been working. I am happy to say, though, that he is on a 2 hour sleep run - which is the longest he's slept consecutively since yesterday afternoon. > > > > > > > > > > I am glad the doctor was good, and gave you some good info. > It > > > > took Isabella > > > > > about a day & a half to adjust to her new casts. Guest guest
He did a little better last night, but he still wasn't himself. My little angel baby (who's cry was barely heard) has become a very loud crier. I'm curious how he'll be after his second cast on Monday. > > In a message dated 11/18/2005 10:26:39 AM Pacific Standard Time, > novemberfable@y... writes: > > until he can't stand the discomfort and then he > > starts crying like there's no tomorrow. > Poor little guy. Guest guest
I will. Thanks DeeDee. How is Isabella handling it? > > In a message dated 11/19/2005 7:37:02 AM Pacific Standard Time, > novemberfable@y... writes: > > > > He did a little better last night, but he still wasn't himself. Guest guest
This is all too familiar. My little girl was the same way. She got her first cast at 2 weeks old. Up until then she was the quietest baby ever, hardly a peep, but her ortho taught her how to be heard! She screamed unbelievabley. It was so tough on me....ugh...so sorry you have to go thru this. I hope it only takes a few casts for your little guy. Marcia Re: 1st Casting He did a little better last night, but he still wasn't himself.
