Guest guest
Hi Melody, I'm not sure what your husband means by no cartilage on the ankle. Do you mean that the skin over the ankle is very taut? How long did he wear the DBB, at what age did he stop wearing it? The latest on brace wear is that they are recommending children continue the brace wear at night to age 4 and sometimes to age 5 or even older. What types of surgery did your son have? That could impact the length of time needed for wearing the brace. When you say that his foot has somewhat of a curve, is it like a backwards C? Is it just the toes turning in, or does the whole foot turn, more like \ ? Even at age 4 a mild relapse may be able to be corrected with a cast or two, it probably depends on what surgeries your son has already had. This also could be nothing that needs treatment, I have also heard of some of the older kids who when they go through growth spurts it takes a few months for the tendons to " catch up " and stretch out again allowing the foot to go straight again. Your best bet is probably take him to his ortho, does he still go for yearly checkups? If your ortho does not still follow up with him it makes me a bit leery that he may not be up on the latest in CF treatment (i.e. casting to correct relapses even at older ages). If you'd like the name of another doc in your area I'm sure that we could find you one, just let us know what area of the country you are in. You may also wish to send photos to the CFPics group, since this list does not accept attachments - CFPics (if you join this group just fill out the short survey you'll get in your email after signing up, we can approve you right away). We're not doctors but we can at least give you an opinion of his foot based on our experiences. Hope this helps, > > I was a member here back in 2002 when my 2nd son was born.
