I do agree in part to what you are saying, and it is ashame if DeeDee didn't

get the answers that she needed. But, we know how hard it is to find useful and

helpful information for concerns we have with our children. Everyone here is

VERY involved with what is going on in their child's lives, and has a wealth of

information to share. I feel much more comfortable asking a developmental

question here than elsewhere because I know the parents, and I am not having to

find a new group to chat with for one problem. Plus, because our children have

clubfeet, many people are curious as to if it could be related or not.

I agree with exchanging email for long discussions, but if I post a quick

question of concern to everyone, how can I know that it is going to continue to

be posted to for days? Is there a way we could address this?

has any clubfoot related issues on it anymore and my box was

Probably the best thing to do for an o/t question is to ask people

to respond to you personally, off-list. If you don't get many (or

any) responses, bump the original post on the list and ask for more

feedback. I don't think it matters if o/t questions are posted,

it's just when the response threads get very long that it can

discourage new members/lurkers looking for information/support.

Hi ,

I just wanted to say that I really liked this group b/c we could all

share our experiences, joys, and problems wheather they be clubfoot

related or not. I for one post OT for off topic ?'s so that if you

don't want to " waste your time " reading the post you can skip it.

I understand Dee Dee is having a hard time with her granddaughter

and we all hope she gets better but, I thought she got a lot of

posts, I don't really think her message got " ignored " or

overlooked.

I also think it is kinda nice you know, when your having a rough day

and you read a funny story like the one, I'm not sure who posted it,

about their " most embarassing moment " . Keeps your spirit up and

brings a smile to your day when you need it the most.

I posted an off topic question a couple of days ago and thanks to

everyone who answered I found out what to do and it made me feel

better to know that I am not alone.

Although I understand where you are coming from, I really hope we

are not " banned " from asking other parenting questions that do not

deal with clubfoot. Maybe it is a good sign to not see that many

posts of problems related to clubfoot. That may just mean everyone

is doing alright... I just hope everthing I have said is not taken

the wrong way.

I agree that the threads can get lengthy but also makes a

point and since we are not just parents of clubfoot children, but also

just parents, it can be nice to have support in other areas,

particularly for those who work full time or have other commitments

that prevent them from networking with parents in their local area. I

have a suggestion for those of you who use Yahoo (some other mail

delivery systems have this feature as well): you can set up filters

to direct your mail into separate folders.

All I have done is set up a filter called Clubfoot OT and told the

system that anything with OT in the subject line (and you can tell it

to match the case as well) should be directed there. Now sometimes

when I do this other stuff filters in as well, but you just have to

watch for it. Perhaps newcomers should be told that this is the

system and it should be enforced among the rest of us that we must

always use OT in the subject line. Basically for myself, I tend to

read the original post and then if it isn't of interest to me, I

delete the rest. I find that even with the clubfoot conversations

that most people are pretty specific in their subject lines and if it

is not a topic that pertains to me at this point, I just go ahead and

delete those ones. As one of the other members pointed out, there's

no way of knowing how long a thread will go on, so I guess if it

reaches a certain limit then maybe the members could switch to private

emails. For myself, when I open my mailbox and see all of those

posts, I get a warm fuzzy feeling because I am part of a community

that shares a common bond.

Just my two bits!

Like I said, I'm not a moderator here and hesitated to say anything

because I do like the banter and ability to share our experiences.

I'm sure if had a problem with the OT talk she would say

something. I just noticed that DeeDee only got one response when she

posted about the heels slipping, it wasn't until she posted the photos

of Isabellas sores that she got help. I know what it is like when

your baby has those sores and I just wish we could have maybe done

something to prevent it. Again, please don't take me to mean that we

shouldn't have fun or feel free to ask each other OT stuff, that's

part of what makes this board so great. Hope there are no hard

feelings! : )

For those who're interested, how about starting up a group for OT? Anybody

who likes reading about all the other topics could join and it wouldn't mean

that new people are overwhelmed or put off by all the off-topic post.

It's true that we form on-line relationships with supportive people and

perhaps there is a group of people who are actively involved with each

other, but I also don't have time to read through all these posts (and I

cannot set up a filter because we are networked to a mail server in some way

that doesn't allow it.)

As my son is now 3 I no longer have a real need for help or advice like I

used to, but I hang around in case I'm able to help others like I was helped

by parents here a few years back.

Also the list is 3 times the size now so the sheer volume of messages just

on clubfoot is much more than it used to be anyway - without OT posts.

Thanks,

Moss

Alllison,

There are no hard feelings at all, on my part anyways. I think it is nice to

be able to share your ideas and feelings openly without being critized or

upsetting someone.

This board has been a wealth of information to me. Both clubfoot/nonclubfoot

issues. I like the fact that if I have an OT question lots of mommies are

concerned and try to help the best way they can, by offerings suggestions.

Makes the board feel like a " family " .

I will continue to post OT for off topic issues, if that is ok? If not please

someone let me know. I hope you or anyone else is not upset with my post.

I wish everyone a HAPPY DAY!

everyone, I agree. I do however think many moms need a little bit of

mom talk sometimes and since many of us aren't on other mom's lists

these kinds of posts do happen.

I wonder if everyone here would consider another group dedicated to

CF parents to talk *off topic*? If y'all are interested I would be

happy to set it up.

Another idea for those with full mailboxes is to use your email

program's filtering and sorting features. This will take all posts

from any particular person/group address or whatever (you decide how

to filter) and will automatically put posts into a separate mailbox

or folder so that you can choose to read a list/group at your

leisure. For example, you filter all mail sent to

*nosurgery4clubfoot * into the nosurgery mailbox or

folder. Then when you open your email all your personal emails are

in your inbox, and when you have time you can read the nosurgery

list. Then, you can do a mass delete of that whole box when you want

to. This has been a lifesaver for me with the many lists/groups I

belong to and I would never be able to keep up with anything any

other way. If anyone needs help with filtering, I do have a file

with information about mail filters for various different software

and online email services that I can send you. Filtering is

easy... you won't go back once you try it!

Okay Kori,

Do I hear you chanting " One of us! One of us! " LOL

Seriously, I like using the OT when I need to post something off topic. That

lets me know it's off topic(of course) and usuallly I read the first post and

if it does not interest me I can delete the other ones related to it. I thought

that was simple enough..

Oh well, I guess we will see if the other list will work.

frogabog wrote:

yes , you have to join. rules are rules... lol...

of course not. I am fine seeing ot posts here personally. I think

another list however will allow the long term ot posts to go on (as

they should) if needed. if people want to join, they will and it'll

work. If not a lot of people join, it obviously isn't what we

need. But it's there if you want. Who knows, I may end up deleting

it. It was easier to do this with the time I had this morning than

to create a poll or watch this thread. It either works or it

doesn't. I don't care either way actually.

If most of us don't join though, it wouldn't necessarily be the same

as being able to post here about OT stuff and get the entire world's

opinion's/advice. So i have mixed optimism about it being entirely

successful. If enough members are there however, and there wasn't a

moratorium on OT posts here (as there is not yet as far as I know) an

OT thread could theoretically be moved over there and continued

without clogging up this list.

hummm...

I just wanted to add as a " newbie " that I didn't feel intimidated at

all by the OT posts- in fact I felt like I was joining a great group

of people who cared about each other. It really seems like you all

are a family and are here to help with anything. On the other hand,

I can understand the build up of emails and posts getting missed...

As for the emails, I changed my options on the group to only send me

a daily digest. It shows all the posts made, and has them at the

bottom if you choose to read them. I usually scroll through and if I

see something I want to read, then I come onto the group.

I've been thorough ever post and have yet to see that one asking for help.

Perhaps that was a Yahoo glitch???

s.

I just noticed that DeeDee only got one response when she

posted about the heels slipping, it wasn't until she posted the photos

of Isabellas sores that she got help.
