Tabitha,

Don't berate yourself. I know it's hard not to blame yourself, but

you're not an ortho--this is new to you too!! And the $$$ thing? Well,

that's life. Sure we'd all like to be able to say " $300 shoes? No

problem! Do they come in colors? I'd like 2 pairs! " But the realities

of life are that we do the best we can with what we have. Whatever

your situation is, I'm sure you're doing the best you can by Karter,

and I think there's very few of us on here who could honestly just

order a pair of the P/M's without a little ouch! or tightening the

belt somewhere. So don't feel bad for trying to stay with the

Markells. We all know what you're going through.

beautiful while walking. He does not walk by himself, so I walked him

up and down hall. He also enjoyed pushing the wheel chair up and down

the hall. He seemed a bit worried about his feet when he is not

standing. Karter curles them behind him. He said this is from the

inside muscle of his foot being stronger than the outside. He thinks

once he starts to walk by himself this will even out the muscles. He

also told us we can go down to 14-16hrs in shoes. His feet are still

very flexable, I guess, his dorsalflextion (sp?) is 15. don't know if

that is very good, but in Sept. when we started seeing Dr. P. it was

5 on left and 0 on right, so at least it is better. We also discussed

the s, because of all of the sores. I told Dr. P. we really

wanted to try to stay with Markels, that we just did not have the $$

right now. He agreed we would try, but if he has anymore sores or

starts slipping again we

> would get the mitchells. He just kept saying " These shoes are no

good for him " I will talk with my husband tonight and see if we can

manage $300 right before X-mas. I feel awful as a parent that I will

not easily switch shoes, but I really believe it was my error that

caused the blisters/sores. Now that I have solved the problem I see

no reason to switch shoes.

Tabitha,

We toughed it out in the Markells. We haven't had blisters since the very

beginning and are doing fine. I also felt silly because maybe I should have

dumped them. But we are doing fine with them now.

We've also stayed with the Markells and after 10 months in them

we've had no problems with blisters. The only problem we had was

when learned to untie them and slip his feet out. But now we

have the pad in the back and we use a sleep sack so he hasn't been

able to slip out of them since.
